Description

Join the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC2) team at NASA Johnson Space Center, where we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, advancing human performance, and developing technologies that enable the future of human space exploration.

Leidos is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Space Radiation Analysis Group (SRAG) within NASA's Mission Operations Branch. In this role, you will support the design, development, fabrication, testing, certification, and sustainment of hardware used on NASA exploration programs, including Orion, the Human Landing System (HLS), and future human spaceflight missions.

Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help develop technologies that detect, mitigate, and protect astronauts from hazardous space radiation and space weather environments. This is an opportunity to contribute throughout the entire hardware lifecycle—from concept development and fabrication through testing, certification, and flight support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, fabricate, assemble, test, certify, and sustain spaceflight hardware supporting NASA exploration missions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technical staff, quality personnel, vendors, and NASA stakeholders throughout the hardware development lifecycle.
  • Develop assembly plans, test strategies, procedures, and verification approaches using project requirements and NASA standards.
  • Execute functional, qualification, certification, acceptance, and interface testing of hardware and software.
  • Analyze test data, document results, recommend design improvements, and support hardware certification activities.
  • Support hardware fabrication, assembly, integration, and troubleshooting of components, subassemblies, and flight hardware.
  • Lead hardware troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and failure investigations while implementing corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Generate, review, interpret, and update engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Prepare and disposition Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DRs), engineering reports, and technical memoranda.
  • Support Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) testing and other engineering evaluations.
  • Coordinate multiple technical activities to ensure projects meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Participate in configuration management and engineering change processes.
  • Maintain project documentation, safety records, and technical deliverables.
  • Complete all required training and perform additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university, with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing or developing spaceflight hardware, preferably supporting NASA Johnson Space Center programs such as Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), or similar exploration initiatives.
  • Experience with hardware manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with configuration management, data management processes, and engineering change requests.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and failure investigations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to present technical information to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware systems, analyze performance data, and develop effective technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and sustaining electrical hardware.
  • Experience using laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and software-integrated systems.
  • Familiarity with NASA Johnson Space Center engineering and configuration management tools, including: MIDAS, CDS, QARC, ELABEL, EDS, ISS PART, JEDII

Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.
