GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The successful candidate is responsible for leading data platform operations and enabling effective delivery, operationalization, and ongoing support of enterprise data, analytics, and platform solutions. In this role, you will coordinate platform delivery and operational activities by aligning resources, priorities, and execution across delivery and data operations teams. You will ensure effective operational support, service performance, and readiness of data solutions by coordinating cross-team activities, managing dependencies, and supporting the execution of delivery and operational objectives in alignment with architectural standards, business priorities, and service management best practices.

Key Accountabilities

Data Platform Operations & Delivery Enablement

• Leads the transition and operational readiness of data solutions into production, ensuring alignment across delivery and operations teams and that support processes, documentation, and resources are in place.

• Oversees data platform performance and reliability by coordinating monitoring, issue escalation, and cross-functional resolution efforts to meet defined service targets.

• Balances short-term delivery needs with long-term data platform roadmaps and operating models.

• Promotes alignment with DevOps and DataOps practices by supporting teams in adopting operational standards, automation, and monitoring approaches.

• Facilitates the execution of the Corporate Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes, including 24x7 response to business impacting incidents by coordinating triage and resolution efforts and escalating priorities as needed.

• Ensures operational runbooks, support procedures, and platform operating standards are established, maintained, and effectively executed through coordination of technical teams to support operational stability, service performance, and overall platform reliability.

• Manages and approves secure access to SGI cloud platforms and services, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and governance standards.

• Oversees critical data management related operations with a focus on ensuring designated datasets are available, reliable, and fit for use.

Service Management & Operations Excellence

• Leads and matures IT Service Management (ITSM) practices as they relate to data platforms and analytics services.

• Ensures monitoring, alerting, and operational processes are in place and adhered to, including service level expectations, timelines, and response standards for data platform operations.

• Oversees the execution of major incidents and root cause analysis processes related to data platforms and data availability issues by monitoring progress, removing blockers, and coordinating cross-functional support.

• Partners with infrastructure, security, and application teams to support disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience for data platforms.

• Drives continuous improvement of data operations through KPI-driven insights and service optimization.

• Ensures timely and effective resolution of escalated inquiries from source system, business and technology stakeholders.

Solution Enablement & Continuous Improvement

• Oversees evaluation and adoption of tools, platforms, and capabilities that improve data solution delivery and operational effectiveness.

• Ensures alignment with enterprise architecture standards, data governance policies, and security requirements.

• Monitors industry trends in data platforms, analytics, and cloud-native operations, recommending improvements to enhance platform performance and capability.

• Enables standardized approaches to data platform support, deployment, and lifecycle management.

Vendor Management

• Supports vendor and partner engagements related to data platforms, analytics tools, and operational services, as required.

• Ensures vendor-delivered services align with business needs, architectural direction, and contractual commitments.

• Supports evaluation of third-party data and analytics solutions for operational fit within the broader technical landscape.

People Leadership

• Builds a high performing workforce by actively leading human resource activities.

• Ensures development of divisional succession plans.

• Builds a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies, ensuring integration with employee performance development and career development plans.

• Drives performance through team members and is committed to leadership development across the company, supporting employees and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.

Corporate Management

• Ensures programs and policies are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies. 

• Manages risk in area of authority.

• Prepares, reviews, manages and/or approves departmental/divisional budgets.

• Prepares decision requests, decision and/or information items and/or SGI board items.

• Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility, including development, implementation and managing of program components specific to departmental health and safety requirements. 

• Makes decisions for departmental operations that are efficient, effective and in alignment with strategic direction and priorities.

• Ensures department and program policies, procedures and guidelines are in compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations; implements and evaluates changes to legislation and regulations in area of authority.

• Establishes and maintains an effective system of internal controls to support reliable financial reporting and compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations within the span of control, and communicates the importance of internal controls to staff.

Education and Experience

• Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or Business.

• Eight years' experience comprised of four years of leadership and four years’ experience supporting or delivering enterprise-scale data platforms, analytics solutions, or technology operations, including service management, platform operations, or solution delivery enablement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of data platform architecture, analytics ecosystems, and data lifecycle management.

• Knowledge of DataOps and DevOps concepts.

• Knowledge of Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance

• Skill in insurance data management and data services, including Guidewire.

• Skill in operational metrics, SLAs, and performance management.

• Skill in communicating technical and operational information, including translating data platform impacts and delivering effective cross-team communication.

• Skill in managing vendors and third-party delivery partners.

• Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional collaboration across delivery, architecture, and operations teams to ensure alignment of priorities, timelines, and dependencies.
