The Port of Portland is hiring a Temporary Parking Enforcement Agent (32 hours/week)! 

The nation’s top airport is seeking an individual to help ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic across terminal roadways and crosswalks while providing an enthusiastic, customer-focused experience at the airport.

As a Temporary Parking Enforcement Agent, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the terminal roadways. You will interact with people from all over the world and all walks of life, assisting customers and enforcing the rules and regulations of the roadways. This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment where your work directly supports the safe and orderly flow of traffic for travelers, employees, and visitors at PDX.

This is a temporary position (up to six months) with at least 32 hours scheduled per week. Additional hours and overtime may be available. This position is represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Work schedules will vary and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Provide direction to drivers of vehicles dropping off and picking up travelers on terminal roadways at Portland International Airport (PDX).
  • Guide pedestrian traffic on the airport terminal sidewalk and crosswalks.
  • Answer questions and provide information to customers regarding airport use, services, and the Portland metropolitan area.
  • Monitor disabled parking zones in the parking garage when requested for assistance with enforcement action. 
  • Works towards resolution of concerns with a demeanor of kindness and an attitude of service, being cooperative and non-confrontational, actively forward complaints to the appropriate department.
  • Issue parking citations and may testify in court as needed.
  • Minimum of (1) one-year experience involving a high level of public contact is required.
  • Ability to pass required testing which includes a Drug Screen is required.
  • Experience demonstrating cooperative, tactful, and service-oriented customer service with the public is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a stressful environment with difficult customers in a diverse multi-cultural environment is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service is required.
  • Previous experience in traffic direction, parking control, or a related field is preferred.

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills including, listening, verbal, non-verbal and in writing.
  • Communicating effectively under stressful situations while maintaining composure and conveying clear concise information.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
  • Demonstrated experience working with limited supervision.

Abilities & Competencies:

  • Build partnerships with strong customer service skills.
  • Resolve argumentative situations using verbal skills and tact.
  • Promote safety as a guiding principle and a regular practice in accomplishing work.
  • Pass a physical examination and baseline hearing test, when requested.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and to be on foot for long periods of time. Work independently or in a group.
  • Proven team player that shows the utmost respect for others.

Your Schedule

Most schedules include 4 days of work followed by 3 consecutive days off, giving you a regular three-day block to recharge, reset, and make time for the things that matter to you. Shifts include day, swing, and night schedules. Schedules are established through a seniority-based shift bidding process and are generally consistent once assigned.

Working Conditions

This is an active, primarily outdoor position requiring extended periods on your feet. Work takes place along the mostly covered PDX terminal roadway and in short-term and long-term parking structures, with exposure to varying weather conditions. Uniforms are provided

Selection Process (tentative schedule):

  1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources.
  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.
  3. This recruitment will remain open to build a broad candidate pool. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and candidates who successfully pass the SME evaluation may be invited to participate in a virtual first-round interview. Candidates who successfully complete the first interview will be invited to participate in an in-person Panel Interview.
  4. Our goal is to have the selected candidate begin employment in early December.
