#### About the opportunity

Real-time video services, such as cloud gaming and remote driving, are becoming increasingly popular. Ensuring high video quality is essential for delivering a positive user experience. Video quality in interactive services depends on factors such as resolution, frame rate, latency, and compression artefacts. Network variability can significantly affect the quality of experience, and traditional video quality metrics may not fully capture these challenges. This thesis aims to investigate and develop innovative methods for evaluating and measuring video quality in highly interactive services. It will also explore new methods for measuring and modelling the Quality of Experience.

#### What you will do

The thesis will build on an existing testing platform for remote-rendered cloud gaming and remotely controlled vehicles. During the project, you will:

• Investigate state-of-the-art AI-based video understanding models and remote-control systems.
• Implement novel video analysis tools and quality metrics.
• Identify which video metrics are most important for the success of cloud gaming and remote-driving services.
• Conduct subjective user tests to validate the proposed methods and findings.
• Analyse the results and draw conclusions about video quality and user experience.

#### The skills you bring

We are looking for candidates who:

• Enjoy working closely with colleagues and collaborating towards common goals.
• Have strong analytical skills and an interest in developing innovative solutions.
• Have a sound understanding of research methodology and good research practices.
• Have knowledge of computer vision, video streaming, or media coding.
• Are interested in algorithm development, experimentation, and testing.
• Have strong programming skills, preferably in Python.
• Have excellent mathematical skills.
• Are pursuing an MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
