Description
The seat
Russ Hadick Associates, Inc. has partnered with a Bridge Builder that operates from 4 states with West Virginia as the Hub. It self-performs its excavation, pile driving, steel erection and concrete, and it needs a Dirt Superintendent to run the earthwork side of its Kentucky work — the single most urgent seat on the client's list right now.
This is a field seat that owns production: grade, mass excavation, embankment, drainage and the equipment spread that goes with them, on heavy-highway and bridge projects.
What you'll actually do
- Run the dirt operation day to day — crews, operators, equipment, haul cycles, production tracking against the estimate.
- Build and hold the three-week look-ahead; coordinate with the bridge superintendent and the project manager so structures and earthwork don't fight for the same ground.
- Own grade control and GPS machine-control setups; verify against survey.
- Manage subcontracted trucking, aggregate and erosion control where it isn't self-performed.
- Enforce the safety program on your spread — toolbox talks, JHAs, incident response — and keep MSHA/OSHA and DOT compliance current.
- Report quantities and daily production so the job cost is real, not reconstructed at month-end.
What we need to see
Required
- Superintendent-level experience running heavy earthwork on highway, bridge or site-development work.
- Comfort reading grade plans and running GPS-guided equipment fleets.
- A track record of hitting production numbers on unit-price work.
Strongly preferred
- KYTC / state DOT project exposure; Kentucky or Appalachian terrain experience.
- Experience on projects with a self-performing bridge crew alongside your dirt crew.
Why the seat is worth a conversation
- Employee-owned through an ESOP. You would be an owner, not just an employee.
- A growing contractor. Over $160M of new work awarded in July 2026 alone; roughly $415M in disclosed awards since 2022.
- The company self-performs, so the superintendent runs the work — not a subcontractor manager watching someone else's crew.
- Compensation is set by your credentials and the market, not a fixed band.
