At Pratt & Whitney, Product Safety is a disciplined, structured approach to ensuring that Pratt & Whitney products across the business do not cause harm throughout their entire lifecycle. Commercial Engines is seeking a Commercial Engines Safety Management System (SMS) Manager. This highly visible role provides dedicated leadership for the Product Safety signature of Commercial Engines (CE).

 

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as Business Unit leader to develop, drive & engage in SMS initiatives specific to CE.
  • Voice of CE Accountable Executive on the SMS Steering Group​.
  • Member of the SMS Core Team​.
  • Coordinate CE SMS Leadership Boards to ensure safety performance and SMS initiative execution remains on track with the BU​.
  • Work with the IPMT’s and CE businesses to identify and manage CE systemic risks​.
  • Engage CE ambassadors to develop culture & awareness of SMS initiatives.
  • Support CE SMS initiatives & drive execution within CE business​.
  • SMS focal for the CE Aftermarket (MRO) network to support internal & external audit activity such as the FAA.
  • Standardize the SMS procedure(s) for the CE MRO network.
  • Incorporate Product Safety/SMS into the MRO Tier meetings & maintain the messaging for flow down.
  • Maintain the CE Product Safety Policy (updates as needed).
  • Serve as the SMS Risk Consultant to the CE Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activity. 
  • Ensure CE Leadership remains informed of upcoming Product Safety deliverables (such as required training) for proper flow down within CE.
  • Work closely with Engineering Product Integrity (EPI) on Safety Board & SIM topics/action items to aid in timely closure.
  • Dissect SIM entries further to identify trends & patterns that could indicate potential risks within CE.
  • Support CE Report A Concern investigations.

 

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Quality, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline and a minimum 12 years experience in Engineering, Quality, Operations, System Engineering, Risk Management, or related cross-functional roles; or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years experience.
  • Position may require 25% travel based on business needs.
  • Experience supporting training, culture, communication, or engagement programs.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Familiarity with FAA and/or EASA Regulations for Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Systems-level thinking across Engineering, Operations, Quality and Programs.
  • Familiar with different safety risk management tools.
  • Skilled in working with Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and information systems.
  • Experience in using CORE tools for continuous process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of safety processes and ability to make appropriate risk-based decisions.

The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
