As our range of academic programmes expands towards postgraduate degrees for existing Dyson engineers around the globe, we are searching for a talented and innovative Senior Coaching and Experience Officer to join our Coaching and Experience Team.
About the Role
As a Senior Coaching and Experience Officer, you will be part of our Coaching and Experience Team.
Senior Coaching and Experience Officers play a pivotal role in the wellbeing, personal development and academic success of students at the Dyson Institute. Each postholder acts as a designated point of contact for a cohort of students, providing proactive and reactive
support, guidance, coaching and case coordination.

In addition to core responsibilities, each Senior Coaching and Experience Officer will hold a specialist portfolio, for example:
- Senior Coaching and Experience Officer (Disability and Neurodiversity)
- Senior Coaching and Experience Officer (Mental Health and Wellbeing)
- Senior Coaching and Experience Officer (International Mobility/ International Development)
Specialist portfolios will be determined through the selection process, considering individual skills and experience, alongside the evolving needs of the Institute and the students we support.
You’ll be based on the Dyson technology campus in Malmesbury and will report to the Coaching and Experience Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching, Personal and Professional Development
- Deliver structured coaching and mentoring to support academic, professional and personal growth.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of Professional Development Days
- Use active listening, motivational interviewing and solution-focussed techniques.
- Identify individual learner needs and tailor coaching strategies to support students learning preferences and development
- Promote resilience, self-awareness and self-management alongside wellbeing literacy
Student Wellbeing and casework
- Provide 1:1 guidance on matters relating to mental health, wellbeing, disability, learning needs, personal development and workplace/academic transitions.
- Use effective active listen skills to identify support requirements and establish appropriate approaches and communication style.
- Conduct professional, trauma-sensitive, psychologically safe wellbeing conversations.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and compliant case notes.
- Manage a diverse caseload, triaging needs, escalating concerns appropriately and collaborating with members of the Institute, Dyson staff and external services.
- Provide specialist consultation and advice to colleagues, supporting decision-making relating to risk management, safeguarding, disability support and reasonable adjustments, as appropriate to the designated portfolio area.
- Apply relevant legislation and HE regulatory frameworks including the Equality Act 2010, Prevent Duty, GDPR, Care Act 2014, OIA and OfS expectations.
Specialist Portfolio Leadership, Policy and Practice Development
- Lead a designated specialist portfolio area (e.g. Mental Health, Disability, International mobility / International Development, Safeguarding or Wellbeing), acting as the Institute's subject matter expert and principal point of advice and guidance.
- Provide specialist consultation, advice and support to colleagues, contributing to decision-making in complex student cases and ensuring consistent, evidence-informed practice.
- Develop, implement, review and continuously improve policies, procedures, guidance and operational practices within the specialist area.
- Keep practice aligned with emerging sector guidance, legislative requirements, regulatory expectations and recognised best practice, recommending and leading improvements where required.
- Monitor developments across the higher education sector and contribute to organisational learning, staff development and service enhancement initiatives.
- Early help, Safeguarding, Escalation and Risk Management
- Staff at the Institute are required to have due regard for safeguarding and the welfare of all students.
- Escalate safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy as appropriate.
- Contribute to welfare checks, risk assessments, personal emergency evacuation plans and lead on appropriate adjustments and agreed support for vulnerable students.
- The postholder must act in accordance with statutory duties, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Care Act 2014 and the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 (Prevent Duty) as well as related institute policies.
- Inclusive Practice, Accessibility and Belonging Champion inclusion across the Institute through proactive engagement, student voice and co-design of wellbeing initiatives.
- Recognise, value and respond sensitively to the diverse identities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual who has previous experience working with young adults in higher education, further education or in a community setting such as youth or social work. You will be an outstanding communicator with a commitment to supporting students on their academic, personal and professional journeys while at the Institute. You will be expected to be proactive, engaging, and confident in your approach, while adopting a collaborative way of working. You will be comfortable adapting to change and using a coaching approach that connects into the resourcefulness and expertise of other areas of the institute.
You will have:
- Educated to degree level, equivalent or qualified by experience.
- Training or certification in coaching, mentoring, professional development or student success practices.
- Previous experience of working in higher or further education, youth work or a related field.
- Ability to build rapport, listen actively and hold psychologically safe conversations.
- Experience in policy development.
- Understanding of safeguarding, risk management and adult/student protection.
- Delivering training, workshops or group sessions.
- Strong organisational skills and accuracy in record keeping
- Experience working in 1:1 support such as coaching, mentoring or professional development.
- Experience in leading processes to support complex student case management
- Experience in interpreting diagnostic assessments (disability pathway)
- Experience in delivering mental health interventions (mental health pathway)
- Experience delivering training, guidance and support to students preparing for overseas placements or international assignments
- Experience with multiagency working
- Experience in supporting neurodivergent students
