We are seeking an experienced Vice President - Human Resources (VP-HR) to join our leadership team, focusing on enhancing our human resources practices while aligning with our mission to provide exceptional care.

The VP-HR will be responsible for leading all aspects of human resources at Kennedy Care, ensuring effective talent management, compliance, and employee engagement. This strategic role requires a thoughtful, forward-looking leader with a deep understanding of the human services sector and experience in implementing innovative HR practices.

The Role
Reporting to the CFO, the VP-HR joins our executive leadership team and leads all aspects of human resources across our four entities. This is a strategic role for a forward-looking leader who knows the human services sector and wants to shape how a growing, multi-state organization recruits, rewards, and retains its people.

This hybrid position is based in Mid-Michigan, with remote flexibility and up to 25% travel to offices and service locations in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and future markets including occasional overnight travel.

What You’ll Do

  • Set and execute HR strategy across all entities and serve as an executive advisor to the CEO and CFO
  • Lead talent acquisition through the Manager of Talent Acquisition Services, owning hiring outcomes for high-volume direct care (caregivers, childcare providers, RBTs), clinical (RN, LPN, BCBA), and leadership roles
  • Own compensation, benefits strategy, and the annual renewal, including ACA compliance for a variable-hour workforce
  • Ensure home care wage-and-hour compliance, including overtime, paid travel time, mileage, and worker classification
  • Maintain multi-state compliance, handbooks, exclusion screening, workers’ compensation, and unemployment programs
  • Own the HR technology stack (HRIS, ATS, LMS) and its integration with scheduling, EVV, and payroll
  • Lead the evaluation and rollout of AI-enabled tools that improve efficiency and the employee and client experience
  • Build engagement, retention, performance management, and leadership development programs
  • Lead the people side of growth, including acquisitions and new-state expansion
  • Participate in EOS Level 10 meetings and own HR Rocks and scorecards
  • Serve as the executive escalation point for after-hours employee crises

  • Six Paid Holidays per year

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily in a remote or office setting and requires extended periods of computer and phone use.
  • Travel up to 25% to offices and service locations in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and future markets, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Availability for after-hours escalations as described in Essential Functions.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or relevant master’s preferred)

  • Experience developing and managing a departmental budget
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
  • A proven track record of people strategies that deliver results
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire HR teams in a dynamic environment.
