Museum Visitor Services Staff/VR Experience Expert

These individuals will provide support to operate, maintain, and guide guests through a VR experience as part of the museum’s upcoming exhibition “James McNeill Whistler”. Staff will be responsible for setting up the systems, managing lines and timed ticket entry, cleaning headsets, instructing guests, and closing the station at museum close.

The individuals will perform professional, technical, and non-personal services by providing daily operational support for the VR experience during public operating hours and any scheduled special events associated with the exhibition.

PositionRequirements:

Staff Scheduling
Responsible for making and managing daily staff schedule to include shift start and end times, and breaks, which will be reviewed and approved by thel Museum.

Opening Procedures

Responsible for opening and activating the VR experience prior to public operating hours. This shall include completing all required operational checks to verify the functionality of VR headsets, controllers, displays, software applications, and any other associated equipment.
Verify that the experience is ready for public use and promptly report any operational, technical, or safety concerns to the TPOC.

Visitor Management

Welcome visitors, provide an overview of the experience, and communicate relevant information regarding educational objectives, estimated experience duration, accessibility features, and any applicable health or safety considerations.
Manage visitor queues, checking timed entry tickets to ensure visitors are entering within their ticketed entry time, monitor experience capacity, and provide visitors with estimated wait times when applicable.
Assist visitors with proper fitting and operation of VR equipment and monitor participants throughout the experience to identify and respond to equipment, accessibility, comfort, or safety concerns.

Instructional Assistance

Pprovide clear instructions regarding use of the VR experience, including headset operation, controller functionality, menu navigation, movement mechanics, accessibility settings, and safe use of equipment.
Provide basic visitor support and troubleshooting during the experience and escalate technical issues to the appropriate staff when necessary.
Maintain basic knowledge about the museum layout to answer visitor’s wayfinding questions.
Respond appropriately to visitor discomfort, including motion sickness, equipment-related issues, or other concerns that may affect participation in the experience.

Equipment Care and Sanitation

Clean and sanitize VR headsets, controllers, and associated accessories between uses in accordance with museum-approved procedures.
Inspect all equipment for damage, excessive wear, or operational issues and promptly report such issues to the TPOC.c. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the VR
experience area throughout operating hours.

Closing Procedure

Responsible for shutting down and securing VR equipment at the conclusion of daily operations.
Complete end-of-day operational checks, verify equipment inventory, secure accessories and peripherals, and report any unresolved technical or operational issues to the TPOC.

Reporting

Document and report operational, visitor, safety, accessibility, and equipment-related incidents occurring within the VR experience area.
Maintain daily operational records as requested by the museum, including visitor counts, equipment issues, downtime, incident reports, and other performance metrics required by the TPOC.
