We are looking to strengthen our existing IT department and are seeking an experienced Senior IT System Administrator to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our Head of IT, take on people responsibility for a small Berlin-based IT team and be the go-to IT expert in our Berlin office. You will play an instrumental role in shaping how we work and will influence what tools and solutions we decide to implement. You will enjoy working in a flexible and agile environment where your ideas and suggestions will be encouraged. We are looking for the following:
- Successfully completed studies in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
- Several years’ relevant experience working preferably in a hands-on SMB or at a Managed Service Provider (MSP)
- Comprehensive expertise in Windows server/client OS’, Microsoft Azure/Entra ID Management tools and Google Workspace administration
- Extensive knowledge as well as a deep understanding of the fundamentals of network infrastructure concepts, virtualization technologies, permission concepts, and backup and recovery strategies/concepts, including the implementation and maintenance of projects in these areas
- Proven experience with cybersecurity practices and tools (incl. SIEM / security monitoring), with a track record of leading incident response end-to-end
- Hands-on experience implementing and evidencing SOC 2 (or ISO 27001) controls, ideally incl. control ownership in an external audit
- Experience with the secure administration of AI tools and platforms
- Experience in leading IT staff, at least functionally (e.g., coordinating and reviewing the work of others, coaching colleagues); experience as a line manager is a plus
- Strong decision-making and delegation skills, combined with a consultative, solution-oriented approach
- Resilient and responsible, staying calm and structured under pressure
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Experienced with documenting processes and changes and maintaining this documentation
- Excellent command of English (level C1 or above); German is a plus

What You'll Do
As a Senior IT System Administrator at Factworks, you'll be pivotal in maintaining the smooth operation and optimal performance of our IT infrastructure. Leveraging extensive experience and technical expertise, you will manage the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of our complex systems and networks. This role encompasses overseeing, configuring, and troubleshooting servers, storage systems, virtualization environments, networks, and cloud services.
Collaborating with other IT professionals, you will implement and enforce robust security measures in line with our SOC 2 policies, maintain backup and recovery strategies, and design disaster recovery plans, ensuring our IT infrastructure remains secure and resilient. Your proactive problem-solving approach and keen awareness of emerging technologies will drive continuous improvement and innovation within the IT landscape at Factworks.
In addition to technical duties, you'll manage our hardware, software, and service platforms, consult with senior management to align IT assets with business objectives, and handle various operational tasks. You'll act as first responder for security incidents during European business hours and administer our approved AI tools in line with our AI governance framework. As line manager of our Berlin-based IT colleagues, you'll coordinate their day-to-day work within the priorities set by our Head of IT.
