Job Description
The Student Real Estate Analyst will work directly with the University’s Real Estate team and gain hands-on experience in real estate, finance, asset management, and property operations. The position provides an opportunity to apply business and analytical skills to real properties while learning how an organization manages a real estate portfolio from acquisition and maintenance through renovation, leasing, and long-term planning.
The student will contribute to projects involving property research, financial and operational analysis, asset assessments, data management, and capital planning. This is an excellent opportunity for a business student interested in real estate, finance, asset management, consulting, or operations to build practical experience and develop skills that translate directly to future internships and careers.
What You’ll Do
● Assess University properties: Visit unoccupied University-owned homes to inventory appliances, fixtures, furnishings, and building systems and document their age, condition, and replacement needs.
● Conduct property research: Research and organize historical property records, including appraisals, inspections, renovations, permits, maintenance history, and other property documentation.
● Analyze real estate data: Assist with financial and operational analysis, forecasting, and reporting to help the University understand property performance and future needs.
● Support asset planning: Help evaluate property conditions, anticipated capital needs, and potential investments to support long-term real estate and asset management decisions.
● Build and maintain data: Organize property information and develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and other tools used to manage the University's real estate portfolio.
● Modernize property records: Assist with digitizing and organizing historical property files to improve access to important real estate information.
● Contribute to special projects: Support research, analysis, and other projects that help the Real Estate team improve how the University manages its properties.
What You’ll Gain
This position is designed to provide real-world business experience—not just administrative work. You will have the opportunity to:
● Apply classroom knowledge to real estate and asset management decisions
● Develop skills in financial analysis, forecasting, and data analysis
● Gain experience evaluating property condition, investment needs, and capital improvements
● Learn how a large organization manages a real estate portfolio
● Work with actual property records, financial information, and operational data
● Develop proficiency with Excel, data organization, research, and analytical tools
● Strengthen professional communication, organization, and project management skills
● Build examples of meaningful projects and analytical work to discuss on your resume and in future interviews
● Gain exposure to career paths in real estate, finance, consulting, asset management, property management, facilities, construction, and operations
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in students pursuing Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, or a related field who are curious about how businesses make decisions about physical assets and investments.
You don't need to have prior real estate experience. We're looking for someone who is:
● Curious and willing to learn
● Comfortable working with spreadsheets and data
● Detail-oriented and organized
● Able to conduct research and draw information from multiple sources
● Comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask questions
● Interested in learning how real estate, finance, and operations come together
This is an opportunity to get beyond the classroom and work on real projects involving real properties, financial analysis, and long-term asset planning.
Pay Grade: SP Student 3, starting at $14.45
