Overview:
Medical Planner
Location: Boston, MA
HGA's Boston Healthcare team is seeking a talented, design-driven Medical Planner and project leader to help shape innovative healthcare environments that improve patient care and support organizational goals.
In this role, you will lead planning efforts for complex helathcare projects across a diverse portfolio. You will apply advanced planning expertise to develop strategic, evidence-based solutions, manage planning scope independently, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders.
The Medical Planner will play a critical leadership role by guiding project teams, mentoring emerging professionals, and contributing to key planning and design decisions. Successful candidates will balance functionality, patient experience, sustainability, operational efficiency, and regulatory requirements to deliver exceptional outcomes.
In this role you will:
Research & Analysis
- Lead research and data analysis for planning and programming studies.
- Validate data accuracy and interpret findings to inform strategic decisions.
Planning & Documentation
- Develop and lead planning and programming tasks, including space analysis, master planning, and implementation strategies planning concepts and space programs aligned with client goals.
- Prepare detailed diagrams, reports, and planning deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with codes, specialty guidelines, and best practices.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Facilitate client workshops and stakeholder meetings to gather input and build consensus.
- Present planning concepts confidently and document feedback for integration.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Coordinate planning scope with architects, engineers, and specialty consultants.
- Manage planning deliverables and ensure alignment with design and technical systems.
Professional Development
- Mentor junior planners and interns.
- Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and firmwide planning standards.
What you will need to have:
- Professional degree in planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive planning experience, with a portfolio of significant, complex projects.
- AICP, FAICP, LEED or another relevant professional accreditation preferred.
- Proficiency in planning and design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, GIS, Adobe Suite).
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in specialized planning (healthcare, lab, academic research) preferred.
Salary Information:
The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA’s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $97,100 - $126,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
