Software Developer

Job Purpose

We are seeking a Software Developer to join the Contenta Xignal development team within RWS.

Contenta Xignal is a software platform supporting the creation, management and publication of technical documentation, primarily within the aerospace and defence industries. Built around the S1000D specification, the platform provides an integrated suite of solutions for technical publication management, XML authoring, workflow, validation and publishing.

Following the acquisition of Xignal by RWS, the product is entering a new phase of development, with a focus on expanding functionality, improving enterprise scalability and supporting a growing international customer base.

The successful candidate will join a small, experienced development team, contributing to the ongoing development and enhancement of the platform. This role provides an opportunity to build on existing programming skills, gain experience with modern web application technologies and work on software used by customers in a specialist industry.

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the design, development, testing and maintenance of software components within the Contenta Xignal product suite.
• Contribute to the development of new product features and improvements to existing functionality.
• Work alongside experienced developers to understand and extend the existing software architecture.
• Support ongoing initiatives to improve application performance, scalability and reliability.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of APIs, services and integrations with external systems.
• Investigate and resolve software defects and technical issues.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and technical discussions.
• Work with product management and the development team to understand customer requirements and translate these into software functionality.
• Develop familiarity with the platform's core technologies, including C#/.NET, web applications, databases and cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to technical documentation, automated testing and continuous improvement of development practices.

 

Skills & Experience

• Knowledge or experience of S1000D, technical publications or related aerospace and defence software.
• Experience working with XML or structured technical data.
• Familiarity with C# and the Microsoft .NET development environment.
• Experience developing web-based applications, APIs or backend services.
• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript.
• An understanding of cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure.
• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes or container-based deployment.
• Experience with automated testing or CI/CD development practices.
• Knowledge of enterprise software integrations or technical data management systems.
