Description
- Lead hands-on architecture for critical parts of the platform while aligning with overall system direction, partnering closely with the Director and Principal Architect.
- Own and drive major product and platform surfaces end-to-end, including design input, implementation, and production quality.
- Remain deeply hands-on, writing production code while leading architectural direction and setting engineering standards.
- Ship production code for a brand new product where systems, patterns, and standards are still being defined.
- Build high-concurrency backend services in Go or Python to manage complex, distributed state synchronization across global regions.
- Drive "Edge-first" engineering using Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects to maintain sub-100ms latency targets in partnership with existing global infrastructure.
- Establish and champion engineering standards for the team, including API design conventions, testing strategies, and cross-stack type-safety patterns.
- Orchestrate heavy-duty workloads and multi-tenant infrastructure using GCP primitives like Spanner, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Run.
- Build and own the integration layer between visual editing interfaces and underlying platform services, including custom extension models and SDKs.
- Integrate production-grade AI scaffolding, such as RAG pipelines and streaming LLM orchestration, to redefine content automation.
- Partner with the Principal Architect and product leadership to translate ambiguous visions into concrete architectural specs and phased delivery plans.
- Mentor and elevate a lean, senior-heavy engineering team through architecture feedback, deep code reviews, and technical documentation.
- 10 plus years of professional software engineering experience with a definitive track record of full product lifecycle ownership.
- Must have directly owned and shipped a B2B product or major platform component from “Zero-to-One.” This does not need to be company-level ownership but must reflect real experience building from a blank slate.
- Expert-level capability in Go or Python plus React and TypeScript, with deep architectural roots in React and the Next.js ecosystem.
- Advanced proficiency in real-time systems and API design (GraphQL, WebSockets, or SSE) with a focus on conflict resolution and live data sync.
- Deep cloud-native fluency, specifically in designing and operating services at scale within GCP and Cloudflare.
- AI experience is a hard requirement. Candidates must have recent, production-level experience building AI features or internal tooling. Candidates must have owned the design of AI systems or tooling, not just integrated external APIs.
- Concrete, shippable examples of building AI-driven features or internal AI scaffolding that go far beyond simple API integrations.
- A "Systems Thinking" mindset that prioritizes long-term scalability, operational simplicity, and developer ergonomics over quick fixes.
- Strong ownership of engineering quality, including defining and enforcing automated testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end) as part of system design.
- Mastery of the browser platform, including component modeling, state management, and high-performance rendering.
- Bonus Points: Deep familiarity with headless CMS architectures, structured content schemas (JSON/Portable Text), collaborative primitives like CRDTs, or a visible history of open-source contributions.
- Base Salary: $164-205K per year. Note: Final offers are based on individual technical depth, experience, and location.
- Quarterly/annual bonus plus equity package.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Results-oriented PTO, sick days, and paid holidays.
- Parental leave, family planning, and monthly wellness/learning stipends.
- Equal Opportunity & Fair Chance: Decisions are made regardless of protected status. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, qualified applicants with arrest/conviction records will be considered.
- Work Authorization: U.S. work authorization without sponsorship is required. Eligibility is confirmed via E-Verify.
