Context
It is rare to find an infrastructure project that is immune to budget and political cycles, but this one has a career horizon stretching all the way to 2086. We are looking for a Design and Engineering Director to join the Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor—a 100% renewable, greenfield network that is setting a new global standard for engineering excellence.
Missions/Main Duties
In this role, you will be the ultimate technical authority for the design programme. You won't just be overseeing work; you will be owning the technical integrity of everything from massive underground structures to complex rail systems, providing the final layer of engineering governance for the entire project.
Profile/Skills
Serve as the senior technical authority for the entire design programme, owning technical integrity and quality across all disciplines from underground structures through to rail systems.
Provide the final engineering governance layer below the Project Director.
Direct the Design Management Plan and governance framework, controlling all design reviews, verification, validation, and approval workflows.
Ensure full compliance with HSR standards, statutory requirements, and client technical specifications across all contract packages.
Lead the resolution of complex cross-discipline and contractor interface issues, including construction sequence integration and early ECI buildability.
Manage the critical interface between Main Works Civil and railway systems (track, OLE, signalling, power) to ensure all spatial and load constraints are resolved.
Oversee production quality across onshore and offshore design offices to maintain consistent standards and deliverable quality.
Lead technical workshops and defend engineering decisions with the client and independent verifiers.
Identify and manage programme-wide technical risks, developing proactive mitigation strategies that protect the design programme and commercial positions.
