The opportunity

We are currently looking for HVDC System Design Engineers. In this role you are responsible for the electrical design and functionality of HVDC converter stations, focusing on the high-voltage system, including main circuit design, insulation coordination and harmonic design.
This advertisement is for the backbone office within HVDC System Design department, where your main task is to support the project execution offices by improving base design and ways of working.
This role is based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden.
How you’ll make an impact
- Ensure the base design and engineering solutions used in the HVDC converter stations are modularized, robust, productified and useful for the current HVDC market.
- Ensure ways of working (study processes, base reports & models, design principles and design rules etc.) are up to date, simple to use, robust and useful for the project execution departments.
- Actively contribute in internal transformation projects and initiatives.
- Effectively participate in problem-solving discussions where you can present your work, discuss challenges and propose a path forward on a higher level.
- Write clear technical reports describing your complex work in a professional manner.
- Take responsibility for your work activities, deliver with quality and on time.

Your background
- You hold a university degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with focus on Power Systems or Power Electronics.
- You have a general understanding of electrical power systems and its equipments.
- You encounter problems with a practical engineering mindset, understanding that models and calculations are estimations. But also, that input data could be arbitrary and that some requirements must be challenged and discussed to solve real problems.
- You are a team player with excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Fluent in English both written and verbal.
- Programming experience in MATLAB and Python, and experience of EMT tools like PSCAD is highly advantageous. Experience of working in Azure DevOps is also beneficial.
- Experience in high voltage system engineering, and especially within HVDC, is highly advantageous.
- Experience in process development and productification work is advantageous.
