Position Summary
The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for assisting current and prospective members throughout the mortgage lending process, including application, underwriting, approval, and closing. This role evaluates members' financial needs, recommends appropriate mortgage loan products, and clearly explains loan options, terms, and requirements to support informed decision-making. Success in this position requires maintaining accurate and consistent communication with members, support staff, and management while delivering exceptional member service. The Mortgage Loan Officer must possess a thorough understanding of mortgage lending regulations, compliance requirements, and internal lending procedures. This professional serves as a trusted advisor, ensuring a seamless lending experience while maintaining adherence to all applicable legal and regulatory guidelines.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Meet with prospective member borrowers.
Request, review, and analyze member applicants’ credit and financial data.
Determine members’ financing objectives and goals.
Present the appropriate products and programs to the members and explain the guidelines.
Discuss interest rate pricing as required.
Identify appropriate opportunities to sell additional loan products.
Collect all necessary supporting loan documentation as required to proceed with the application through the loan process.
Work with compliance and underwriting to ensure any outstanding loan conditions are met.
Provide ongoing communication with the Member throughout the process, up to and including loan closing details and instructions.
Ensure an exceptional service experience for the Member throughout the mortgage application process.
Comply with applicable consumer laws, regulations, company guidelines, etc.
Complete all necessary training and licensing.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of offered lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain the confidentiality of all information processed.
Achieve mutually agreed upon personal production goals determined by mortgage management.
Perform all job functions in accordance with the credit union’s mortgage lending policies and procedures.
Prepare, complete, and submit required reporting requirements as determined by mortgage management.
Work effectively in the organization’s loan origination system
Work to ensure accountability and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning mortgage lending.
Manage multiple loan submissions and meet required deadlines for each loan.
Perform mathematical calculations accurately and efficiently, including decimal computations, rate calculations, percentages, and other lending-related calculations.
Drives to vendor locations and Wellby branch locations
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of personal computer, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software.
Knowledge and understanding of mortgage pricing and rate sheets.
Knowledge and understanding of mortgage products and guidelines.
Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.
Skilled in identifying and pursuing opportunities for business expansion within the existing market, aiming to increase the credit union’s mortgage market share.
Ability to apply mortgage lending industry standards, laws, and regulations.
Ability to input data accurately and efficiently into mortgage lending software systems and have a working knowledge of such systems.
Ability to work under the stress of dealing with a wide range of personalities and monitoring and reviewing the many loan details and loan packages to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Ability to efficiently understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform routine duties without close supervision, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members.
Ability to coordinate several concurrent activities simultaneously.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

To perform this job successfully, the team member is frequently required to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Daily movements include sitting, standing, reaching, and grasping; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office; and attending possible onsite and offsite meetings.
The team member must be able to exchange information, in person, in writing, and via telephone. Some degree of stress results from contact with management and other team members.
The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment, but is usually in an adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated area.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum three (3) years of mortgage or lending experience, including mortgage origination, processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, consumer lending, home equity lending, or other lending experience required. Candidates with Mortgage Loan Officer experience are preferred, but candidates with a strong lending background and the ability to learn mortgage products, guidelines, and processes will also be considered.
Working knowledge of conventional and government mortgage lending guidelines and underwriting requirements is required.
Ability to successfully register with and maintain registration through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) in accordance with SAFE Act requirements.
Valid Texas driver’s license and the ability to travel locally as needed, or the ability to obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of hire are required.
Experience originating conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and other government-backed mortgage loan products preferred.
Credit Union experience preferred.
Must meet Wellby's established monthly Mortgage Loan Officer production standards. See appendix
