EXPERIENCE EVALUATION: An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant’s academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken, based on the statement of experience as recorded on the candidate’s application and on academic training based on required credentials.

Under supervision, inspects the construction of roads, bridges, or sewers. Examines paving construction and maintenance work. Ensures compliance with contract plans, specifications, and good workmanship, and performs relative duties as required.

High School Diploma or GED required.  Two years of full-time paid field experience in inspection and construction of civil engineering projects required.  (Substitution: A Construction Technician certification may substitute for experience.)  Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required.  PORT CONTROL - High School Diploma or GED required.  Four years of full-time paid experience in construction inspection or related construction of civil engineering projects required.  (Substitution: A Construction Technician certification may substitute for two years of experience.)  Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.  Must pass Airport Operations Area (AOA) driving and communications tests within three months of the date of hire.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.  Must have excellent attendance and work record as well as written and oral communication skills.  

Must comply with a TSA 10-year fingerprint based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check.  Should have the ability to perform basic calculations needed to verify quantities of materials and to check dimensions and elevations.  Should also have a knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, FAA standards and/or ODOT standards.  Will be exposed to various inhospitable environmental and inclement weather conditions.  The following are preferred: Experience in sewer, concrete, and/or asphalt paving and commercial/industrial building; Computer knowledge, especially of MS Word.

CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (CMSD) PREFERENCE CREDIT 

An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and is participating in an open competitive entrance-level examination, as determined by the Commission, shall receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, as established in the examination announcement.  Applicants must provide acceptable proof of graduation from a CMSD school at the time of application in order to qualify for this credit.

Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G.  Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service-connected disability.
