Design & Product Development | Reports to: Director of Product Design / VP
Our Client designs and manufactures premium fiberglass windows and doors for residential and commercial applications. We combine architectural precision with advanced material engineering to create products that perform beautifully and last for decades. As we grow, we're looking for an Architectural Designer to help shape the next generation of our product line and support the architects, builders, and homeowners who specify our systems.
Position Summary
The Architectural Designer will work at the intersection of product design, technical detailing, and client-facing consultation. You'll translate architectural vision into buildable fiberglass window and door specifications — developing custom configurations, producing technical drawings, and ensuring every project balances aesthetics, performance, and manufacturability. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the creative and technical sides of the building envelope.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and companies to design custom fiberglass window and door solutions that meet aesthetic intent, performance requirements, and budget
Produce detailed shop drawings, elevations, sections, and 3D renderings using CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar)
Translate architectural plans into accurate product specifications, including sizing, glazing options, hardware, finishes, and structural requirements
Ensure designs comply with local building codes, energy codes (e.g., NFRC, Energy Star), and structural/wind-load requirements
Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to confirm design feasibility and resolve constructability issues early
Develop and maintain a library of standard details, templates, and configuration options to streamline future projects
Support the sales team in technical presentations, client walkthroughs, and value-engineering discussions
Review submittals, shop drawings, and mockups for accuracy prior to production
Stay current on trends in fenestration design, sustainable building practices, and competitor product offerings
Occasionally visit job sites to review installations, gather field measurements, or troubleshoot design issues
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
3+ years of experience in architectural design, product design, or building envelope/fenestration design
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD required; Revit, SketchUp, or Rhino a strong plus)
Solid understanding of window and door construction, glazing systems, and building envelope performance
Familiarity with building codes, energy performance standards, and structural requirements related to fenestration
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred:
Experience specifically with fiberglass window/door systems or composite materials
Working knowledge of NFRC, AAMA, and ASTM standards for fenestration products
Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows
Background in custom or high-end residential/commercial architecture
Familiarity with manufacturing processes (pultrusion, extrusion, or similar)
