Description
This is a Limited Term Assignment to cover a leave of absence. Although not guarenteed, contracted positions and/or additional substitute opportunities may become available.
*Shifts are generally 7:30am - 4:00pm*
PUSD Classification Salary Range: $19.46 - $24.91 per hour
Limited Term (Sub) Salary: $19.46 per hour (step 1)
Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission.
Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, observe students and patrons at an assigned swimming pool and adjacent facilities; assure healthy and safe conditions for physical education and instructional programs and special events; perform minor maintenance and periodic water testing activities.

Respond to emergency situations as required; perform first aid to injuries according to establish American Red Cross procedures; District and County protocol, including removing victim from water; complete accident reports.
Assist in the implementation of swimming instruction and community recreation programs; provide instructional assistance to physical education teachers with swim class.
Maintain pool supply and equipment inventory as directed; submit requisitions for pool supplies as needed; prepare and maintain related records and reports.
Communicate with a variety of staff, local community organizations and others to provide information related to pool operations and others.
Perform minor maintenance and periodic water testing activities; take periodic water saturative tests and adjust as necessary; backwash filters; clean and change pump strainers; move, repair and replace lane lines, pool covers, starting blocks and others.
Perform related duties as assigned
Graduation from high school and one year related lifeguarding experience including some experience teaching swimming lessons.
*LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid First Aid (Title 22) Certificate.
Valid CPR Certificate.
Valid Lifeguard Training Certificate.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Lifesaving methods and techniques including artificial respiration and CPR.
Water safety.
Pool operation and general maintenance methods.
Methods of maintaining pool areas and facilities in a clean, safe and sanitary manner.
Competitive swimming and swim instruction techniques.
American Red Cross policies and procedures.
Health department laws, rules and regulations related to the operation and maintenance of public swimming pools.
Record-keeping techniques.
District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Swim with proficiency.
Observe students during swim classes, preventing dangerous situations from developing and rescuing persons in distress.
Perform artificial respiration and CPR.
Communicate effectively with students and patrons to assure student safety and well-being and rules, regulations and safety requirements are met.
Operate, clean and perform routine maintenance on swimming pool.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Learn, interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
