Why You’ll Love This Role

This is an opportunity to make a difference every single day. You’ll care for patients during critical moments in their recovery and treatment journeys while building meaningful relationships with patients, families, and an interdisciplinary team that shares your commitment to exceptional care.

From celebrating a patient’s recovery after surgery to offering comfort and hope to someone facing a cancer diagnosis, the work you do matters.

You were born to care for others. You bring the clinical skills, heart, resilience, and compassion that make an extraordinary nurse.

Let’s be honest, Post-Op and Oncology nursing is not for everyone. It takes clinical expertise, emotional strength, compassion, and a special ability to care for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Your calling as an Oncology and Post-Op Nurse is personal. You understand the fragility of life, and when you walk into your patient’s room, you strive to be a ray of sunlight—bringing hope, comfort, reassurance, and exceptional care through pain, recovery, uncertainty, and fear.

On our Post-Op & Oncology Med/Surg Unit, no two days are the same. You’ll care for patients recovering from surgical procedures while also supporting patients throughout their oncology journey. You’ll use your assessment skills, clinical judgment, and nursing expertise to monitor patient conditions, manage complex care needs, prevent complications, and provide compassionate support to both patients and their families.

Your Everyday

  • Take the lead by prioritizing, coordinating, and delegating all aspects of patient care for Post-Op, Oncology, and Med/Surg patients.
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures and those receiving treatment for oncology-related conditions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, case managers, pharmacists, therapists, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate, coordinated patient care.
  • Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns and implementing appropriate interventions in a timely manner.
  • Manage post-operative care, including pain management, surgical site monitoring, mobility, recovery progression, and prevention of post-operative complications.
  • Support oncology patients and their families by providing compassionate care, education, symptom management, and emotional support throughout their healthcare journey.
  • Maintain and advocate for a safe environment for patients, families, visitors, and fellow team members.
  • Monitor and engage with patients, families, and appropriate care team members regarding significant events, changes in condition, questions, concerns, and ongoing care needs.
  • Prevent and treat wounds while promoting skin integrity and implementing evidence-based interventions.
  • Monitor and execute Joint Commission, infection prevention, and environment of care requirements to maintain a safe and high-quality patient care environment.
  • Ensure continuity of care, efficient patient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional experience for every patient and family.
  • Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services to support recovery, treatment plans, discharge planning, and ongoing healthcare needs.
  • Advise and consult with the supervisor or appropriate leadership when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by assisting coworkers and supporting the overall success of the unit—even when you haven’t been asked.
  • Serve as a compassionate advocate for patients and families, ensuring their voices, needs, concerns, and goals remain at the center of care.
