Job Title: Standards Development Manager

Location: The Acre, Covent Garden, London - Hybrid working, 2 days per month in the office & additional business needs

Type: 12 month fixed term contract

We are hiring for a Standards Development Manager to join us on a 12 month fixed term contract, working on a hybrid basis from our London office. In this role you will manage a portfolio of standards development committees, projects, and programmes across both national and international settings.

You will be responsible for developing a work programme that meets stakeholder objectives, addresses market needs, and reflects good business practice. As a SDM you will work with the Senior Standards Manager (SSM) and Sector team to develop BSI’s standards development position in their particular market sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of standards development projects, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines, quality standards and business objectives.
  • Lead and support industry committees, guiding expert stakeholders through the development of nationally and internationally recognised standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies, regulators, industry associations and subject matter experts.
  • Facilitate meetings and stakeholder discussions, driving consensus and resolving differing viewpoints to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Identify emerging industry trends and market needs, developing business cases and recommendations for new standards initiatives.
  • Represent and support UK interests within international and European standards development activities and working groups.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including marketing, policy and content functions to maximise the reach, adoption and impact of published standards.
  • Recruit, onboard and develop committee members, ensuring diverse, engaged and effective expert communities.

To be successful in the role, you will have

  • Previous experience within an Engagement, Project Management or Relationship Management position.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Confident communicating with and influencing industry experts and senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple committees and priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, with experience preparing agendas, minutes and meeting logistics.
  • Strong written communication skills and confidence using tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience in standards, publishing, membership bodies or similar stakeholder-led environments is advantageous.

Salary Range: £40,000 - £42,400

The advertised salary range reflects the level, scope and responsibilities of the role. Starting salary within that range will be determined based on experience, skills, market considerations and alignment with internal equity principles.
