Purpose

Texas Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) is hiring for one Student Leadership Programs Senior Student Associate. This 20-hour a week position is part of the Texas Leadership and Education Development unit within the Division of Texas Student Experience. Texas LEAD provides leadership development opportunities to undergraduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. Our mission is to empower students through transformative leadership development programs, resources, and experiences with the vision that each student will realize their potential as a leader to create positive change. This position will support our leadership program, facilitate leadership trainings, and provide support to student participants. Pending satisfactory performance, this position will transition into Graduate Assistant position.

Responsibilities

The Texas LEAD Graduate Assistant will provide support in a variety of programmatic areas:

  • Leadership Program Support (40%): The Graduate Assistant will support the management of an emerging leaders program and provide assistance to the Terry Scholars. This includes communicating with student participants, managing internal data, meeting one-on-one with students, etc.
  • Workshop Facilitation (30%): The Graduate Assistant will assist with facilitating trainings to student organizations on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills for groups as assigned.
  • Student Advising (20%): The Graduate Assistant will also work directly with 3-4 Project Advance Austin teams in an advisory capacity. The Graduate Assistant will also support the Assistant Director in advising the Terry Scholars Student Association.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (10%): The Graduate Assistants will collaborate as a member of the Texas LEAD team, aid in the coordination of marketing and outreach efforts of office programming and initiatives, and attend Texas LEAD meetings, programs, activities, and events when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student (taking at least 9 hours).
  • Experience working with leadership development programs as well as a program planning background (including experiences as an undergraduate and/or graduate student).
  • A desire to work with students in a developmental capacity.
  • Experience managing teams or work groups. 
  • Ability to facilitate leadership development workshops.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in advising students related to personal and/or professional development.
  • Ability to utilize concepts of student development in program planning, facilitating, and administrative duties.
  • Experience working with a multitude of student populations.
  • Experience in program and event planning.
  • Other experience/skills as relevant to specific position responsibilities.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Hourly Rate $19.33/hr.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment; Must work in-person at the SSB.

Work Shift

Most hours to be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with regularly prescheduled evening and weekend workshops.
