Description
Take the next step in your Transurban journey.
Here's an opportunity to grow your skills and shape your path at Transurban. We're building a culture where you can apply your strengths and develop the skills you need for tomorrow.
About the Opportunity
As a Principal Asset Engineer – Tunnelling/Geotechnical, you'll play a key role in shaping the long-term performance, safety, and resilience of some of Australia's most significant transport infrastructure assets.
You'll join a collaborative team that partners across engineering, asset strategy, operations, project delivery and commercial functions to solve complex challenges and optimise infrastructure performance over the entire asset lifecycle.
As our Principal Asset Engineer – Tunnelling/Geotechnical, you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It is complex, meaningful, and exciting work so that our customers experience faster, safer, and more reliable journeys.
How you'll make an impact (your day-to-day):
Provide trusted technical leadership that helps ensure the ongoing safety, integrity, and performance of Transurban's tunnel and geotechnical assets.
Shape asset management and maintenance strategies that balance risk, reliability, customer safety, and long-term value.
Partner with operational, delivery, planning, and commercial teams to influence investment decisions and develop practical engineering solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
Support engineering governance and change processes, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with business and concession requirements.
Provide technical insight on external developments, stakeholder requests, and infrastructure interfaces to help protect and enhance Transurban's assets.
Drive innovation by identifying new technologies, methodologies, and improvements that enhance infrastructure performance and sustainability.
Build strong relationships across the organisation and industry, influencing stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for customers, communities, and the business.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and a drive to adapt. We value the transferable skills and experience you could bring, including:
Solving complex infrastructure challenges: Bringing sound technical judgement and a practical approach to managing risk, performance, and asset reliability across major infrastructure or asset-intensive environments.
Influencing through expertise: Building trusted relationships and communicating complex technical information in a way that supports effective decision-making.
Thinking strategically: Developing long-term solutions that balance operational needs, customer outcomes, safety requirements, and investment priorities.
Driving continuous improvement: Demonstrating curiosity and openness to new technologies, data, and ways of working that improve asset performance and business outcomes.
Developing others and delivering together: Sharing knowledge, coaching technical colleagues, and collaborating across teams to achieve collective success.
Taking ownership of your career and development means exploring opportunities that stretch you. We aren't looking for a perfect checklist; we are looking for a strong foundation. If your experience aligns with some of the above and you bring a readiness to adapt, we want to hear from you.
