Specialist Digital Sculptor

At General Motors Europe, you’ll work at the intersection of creativity, design and cutting-edge technology across multiple brand studios to push the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive design.
General Motors' Creative Design is looking for a Specialist Digital Modeler to create digital models by developing aesthetic surfaces which meet time and quality requirements as directed for assigned programs. In this role, you will be leading projects and coordinate a team of modelers to contribute to problem solving by collaborating with design and engineering partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop surfaces for physical or digital models throughout the GVDP
- Support studio personnel in the development of solutions to engineering and design challenges
- Support surface releases which meet Design approval, production engineering, and data release requirements
- Comprehend program timelines and all related model quality requirements
- Adhere to common GM Global Design processes / best practices
- Occasional mentoring others in achieving GVDP modeling standards and technical ability
- Perform assessment of surface quality
- Adhere to corporate data management processes (TeamCenter, SharePoint etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email etc.)
- Ask for and anticipate customer needs; make all business decisions to support those needs
The role will require close collaboration with the Exterior and Interior Design Managers with the ability to capture the evolution of a Design through digital stimulus and sell the emotional connection to the customer, highlighting the vehicles USP in a modern and compelling way.
The Specialist Digital sculptor will need to operate flexible working and strive for the highest levels of quality in the time available, offering surfacing solutions and bringing to life the Designer’s vision in 3D. They assume responsibility for all Digital assets coming from the 3D Creation team and ensure they are completed on time to the highest levels of quality.
In addition to being a hands-on role, they will be required to guide more junior members of the team in best practices and oversee final outputs of digital assets.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrates the courage to make the changes that will improve the organization, and helps others overcome their resistance to change
- Lead and coordinate a team of modelers to deliver high quality models to the desired quality required for senior presentation
- Knowledge of the Design Process in a Design Studio Environment
- 10+ years of Digital modelling experience in an Automotive OEM or Large Consultancy using Autodesk Alias, with experience of both Sub Divisional modelling and Nurbs modelling.
- Experience in the creation of both Vehicle Exterior and Interior Digital models
- Strong Organisational and Communication Skills
- High level of creative proficiency
- Strong sketch interpretation skills and ability to translate Design input into 3D models
- Ability to successfully incorporate engineering criteria into a design theme
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Functional knowledge in the use of current office software (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)
- Nurbs modelling experience using Alias desirable
- Soft modelling/poly modelling experience for soft trimmed parts using SUB-D/Blender or similar on interiors is desirable but not essential.
- Seeks opportunities for innovation by executing on the latest ideas, a thirst for exploring and integrating new tools and technologies and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Design/Transport Design/Product Design/3D/Animation or equivalent experience
