Job Description:

Pay Rate: $50,000 per year

Our work promotes skill development, community building, and healthy lifestyles through recreation and wellness opportunities.

This position supports the delivery of recreation programs and services at the ASU Polytechnic campus. Working alongside the Assistant Director and university-wide functional experts, this position provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience across multiple areas of collegiate recreation while helping build and grow programs that serve the Polytechnic campus community.  Professional development opportunities and support for obtaining relevant certifications are encouraged and provided as appropriate.

Essential Duties:

Program Coordination and Operations (50%)

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness programs and services at the ASU Polytechnic campus, including intramural sports, fitness, aquatics, safety education, special events, and other campus initiatives.

  • Collaborate with university-wide functional leads, campus partners, and student organizations to deliver engaging programs, develop new initiatives, ensure consistent service delivery, operational excellence, and risk management practices.

  • Support program operations by maintaining equipment and resources, monitoring participation and assessment efforts, and assisting with budget management and continuous program improvement.

Student Staff Leadership and Development  (45%)

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, mentor, and evaluate student employees while fostering a supportive and customer-focused environment that promotes leadership development and high-quality participant experiences.

Administrative Responsibilities (5%)

  • Support the daily administrative functions of the department, including payroll processing, budget tracking, recordkeeping, assessment and reporting, and other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education or related field.

  • Experience in campus and/or community recreation, fitness, sports, aquatics, or a related field.   Candidates with experience in one or more program areas—including aquatics, intramural sports, group fitness, personal training, safety education, and/or related recreational programming—are encouraged to apply. Professional development and mentorship opportunities are available to build knowledge across additional functional areas.

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading student employees, volunteers, or staff.

  • Experience providing excellent customer service and working with diverse populations.

  • Strong organizational, communication, independent thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while adapting to changing operational needs.

Department Statement:

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, Upward Bound and TRiO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services and others.
