Position Summary
Capital Waste Services is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Non-CDL Driver (Mini Packer Operator) to operate a mini packer truck and perform residential, commercial, and municipal waste collection services on assigned routes. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service while operating company vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with company policies, local regulations, and safety standards.
Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Certification/DOT Physical Card) as a condition of employment. The driver is responsible for maintaining an acceptable driving record and complying with all applicable safety and vehicle operation requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Route Operations
- Safely operate a mini packer truck on assigned collection routes.
- Service residential, commercial, and municipal customers according to established schedules.
- Collect and transport waste and recyclable materials to designated disposal facilities.
- Ensure all containers are emptied completely and returned to the proper location.
- Monitor route productivity and communicate service issues to supervisors or dispatch.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) accurately and timely.
- Report mechanical issues, equipment damage, safety concerns, or accidents immediately.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of assigned equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and safe operating procedures.
- Operate vehicles safely in varying weather, traffic, and customer site conditions.
- Utilize proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and operational briefings.
- Report accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, or unsafe conditions immediately.
Customer Service
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers and the public.
- Resolve routine service concerns and communicate customer needs to management.
- Represent Capital Waste Services in a positive and professional manner.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete route sheets, service tickets, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Physical Card/Medical Certification).
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Ability to meet company insurability requirements.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Preferred
- Previous waste industry, sanitation, delivery, transportation, or route driving experience.
- Experience operating trucks, mini packers, box trucks, or similar equipment.
- Experience working independently in a route-based environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Safe vehicle operation and defensive driving practices.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow route instructions and maintain schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Basic understanding of vehicle inspections and maintenance reporting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle throughout the workday.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb as needed.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to traffic, weather conditions, dust, noise, and waste materials.
- Early morning start times may be required.
- Overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on operational needs.
