Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be successful as an Agent Builder Developer, you should have experience with:

• Delivering enterprise-scale AI, automation, and digital transformation solutions within large, complex organizations.

• Strong background in Microsoft Copilot Studio / Agent Builder Development including agent design, conversational flows, topics, actions, orchestration, and enterprise deployments.

• Experience defining AI governance, security controls, responsible AI practices, and compliance requirements in an enterprise environment.

• Power Platform Development (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse) with integration of AI agents into business processes and workflows.

• Microsoft 365 & Azure Integration including Microsoft Graph APIs, Entra ID (Azure AD), REST APIs, authentication, and enterprise security controls.

• Generative AI & Prompt Engineering with practical experience in LLM-powered solutions, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), knowledge grounding, and AI governance.

• Designing, developing and deploying enterprise-grade AI agents using Copilot Studio and Agent Builder.

• Integrating AI agents with Barclays business systems, M365 services, and third-party applications.

• Defining AI solution architecture, security controls, and governance standards.

• Collaborating with product owners, business analysts, architects, and engineering teams to deliver scalable AI-powered experiences.

• Driving adoption of Generative AI capabilities across Digital Colleague Workplace platforms.

• Supporting production releases, operational excellence, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to senior leadership and non-technical audiences.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Azure AI Services including Azure OpenAI, AI Search, Language Studio, and Cognitive Services.

• Software Development Skills in C#, .NET, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript for custom agent extensions and API integrations.

• DevOps & CI/CD Practices using GitHub, Azure DevOps, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release governance.

• Digital Workplace & M365 Collaboration Platforms including SharePoint Online, Viva Suite, Teams Apps, and employee experience solutions.

• Relevant Microsoft certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Copilot Studio, Power Platform Solution Architect, Azure AI Engineer Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

• Contribute to the strategic AI roadmap and identify opportunities for automation, innovation, and cost optimization.

• Mentor co developers and promote engineering best practices across the organization.
