Job description:

The Hardware Design Engineer leads hardware engineering activities from concept phase through mass production and is responsible for the development, verification, and release of electronic hardware designs according to product development schedules.

The Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for developing robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable electronic hardware solutions that satisfy customer requirements while ensuring compliance with automotive quality, reliability, safety, and EMC requirements.

Leverage deep technical expertise in automotive electronics, circuit design, power architecture, hardware verification, and product development to contribute to successful project execution.

As a technical contributor, collaborate closely with system, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams to deliver high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities:

Hardware Development

  • Plan and execute hardware development activities in accordance with project schedules.
  • Analyze system requirements and derive hardware requirements.
  • Design electronic hardware architectures and circuit implementations.
  • Develop analog, digital, power, and communication interface circuits.
  • Select and evaluate electronic components.
  • Support processor, memory, power management, and communication architecture development.
  • Review and approve hardware design deliverables.

Design Verification

  • Define hardware verification strategies and test plans.
  • Review hardware verification methods and test results.
  • Verify compliance with design requirements and customer specifications.
  • Support DV, PV, and production validation activities.

Quality and Reliability

  • Apply automotive design best practices for robustness and reliability.
  • Support EMC, ESD, thermal, and environmental robustness activities.
  • Participate in DFMEA, DRBFM, design reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Lead technical root-cause investigations for hardware issues.
  • Support corrective and preventive action activities.

Project Execution

  • Estimate hardware development effort and cost.
  • Support project planning and task breakdown activities.
  • Analyze engineering change requests from a hardware perspective.
  • Track hardware development progress and report status to stakeholders.
  • Interface with suppliers regarding technical design topics.

Customer and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in customer technical discussions related to hardware topics.
  • Collaborate with system, software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, safety, and test teams.
  • Support technical reviews with customers and suppliers.
  • Contribute to successful product release and launch.

Requirements:

Must Have

Technical Competencies

  • Strong competency in automotive electronic hardware design.
  • In-depth knowledge of analog, digital, and power electronics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of hardware verification and validation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of microprocessor and SoC-based hardware architectures.
  • Experience with automotive communication interfaces such as CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Understanding of automotive product development processes.

Automotive Development Knowledge

  • Practical experience in ISO 26262 compliant product development, including ASIL-B or higher programs.
  • Basic understanding of automotive EMC, electrical, and environmental validation requirements.

Leadership and Communication

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to drive technical discussions and influence technical decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Education, Qualification, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in automotive electronic hardware development.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in electronic circuit design.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in hardware verification and validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience conducting and facilitating design reviews, DFMEA, FTA, and DRBFM activities.
  • Native-level Japanese and business-level English communication skills.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of high-speed interface design, memory interfaces, and power sequencing.
  • Knowledge of EMC, ESD, thermal, and reliability design practices.
  • Experience with imaging and high-speed serial interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, GMSL, FPD-Link, and LVDS.

Automotive Development Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of automotive development frameworks such as ASPICE.
  • Knowledge of ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity).
  • Knowledge of CISPR 25, ISO 11452, and ISO 7637.
  • Experience supporting EMC qualification and compliance testing.

Leadership and Communication

  • Ability to mentor and develop junior hardware engineers.
  • Experience leading hardware development activities across global teams.
  • Experience serving as technical lead or hardware architect.

Additional Experience

  • Experience with memory subsystem design (DDR, LPDDR, Flash interfaces, etc.).
  • Experience with automotive camera, ADAS, or high-performance compute platforms.
  • Experience in reliability, thermal, and environmental validation activities.
