General Transportation Manager - Full Grocery, Dairy (Transportation)

What you'll do...

As a General Transportation Manager, you will lead a complex transportation operation focused on delivering safe, reliable, and efficient service across Walmart's supply chain network. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, developing high-performing teams, managing financial performance, and ensuring an exceptional experience for associates, customers, and suppliers. This role requires a strategic leader who can balance day-to-day execution with long-term planning while fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

Lead Transportation Operations

  • Develop and execute strategic business plans that support facility goals related to safety, service, productivity, maintenance, and operational excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, optimize resources, and improve transportation performance.
  • Monitor operational metrics and implement solutions that support business objectives and customer expectations.

Champion Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all company, regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
  • Establish, maintain, and communicate operational processes, procedures, and documentation that support safe and efficient operations.
  • Promote a culture where safety is embedded in every aspect of the operation.

Drive Financial Performance

  • Manage facility budgets and financial performance by monitoring expenses, asset utilization, and operational costs.
  • Analyze business reports and performance data to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and improve results.
  • Ensure resources are effectively allocated to meet operational and financial goals.

Build and Develop High-Performing Teams

  • Lead, coach, and develop facility leaders and associates to achieve operational excellence.
  • Set clear expectations, establish performance goals, and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Support talent management activities, including hiring, onboarding, succession planning, performance management, and career development.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where associates feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Optimize Workforce Planning

  • Review and approve staffing plans to ensure workforce levels align with business demand and performance expectations.
  • Partner with leadership teams to proactively address talent needs and support future growth.

Resolve Operational Challenges

  • Address associate, customer, and supplier concerns by conducting thorough investigations, evaluating facts, and making timely, informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to solve complex operational issues and drive positive outcomes.

Represent Walmart in the Community

  • Serve as a leader within the local community by supporting charitable initiatives, participating in community organizations, and promoting Walmart-sponsored events and programs.
  • Strengthen relationships with associates, customers, and community stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $144,000.00 - $216,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
- Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Production/Operations Management); and 3 years experience in a senior management role within an operations/distribution/logistics environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees facility-wide OR 1 year experience as a Walmart Logistics Assistant General Manager supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing associates; managing associate workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of associates OR 3 years experience as a Walmart Logistics Operations Manager OR 5 years experience in a senior management role as an operations/distribution/logistics environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees facility-wide
