Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Assistant supports the Nuclear Medicine and PET departments by coordinating patient flow and ensuring an efficient, organized, and patient-centered experience. This role is responsible for verifying patient information, preparing documentation, managing appointment workflows, and assisting the clinical team with non-licensed duties. The Nuclear Medicine Assistant provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff while maintaining patient confidentiality and supporting high-quality care.

Job Functions

• Optimize patient flow for Nuclear Medicine and PET imaging examinations by coordinating schedules, preparing patients, and supporting efficient departmental operations.*
• Verify patient demographics, insurance information, physician orders, and appointment details, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurately maintained in the electronic medical record (EMR).*
• Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments, providing exam preparation instructions and addressing patient questions within the scope of the role.*
• Deliver exceptional customer service by welcoming patients and visitors with professionalism, compassion, and respect while ensuring patient comfort, safety, privacy, and confidentiality.*
• Escort and assist patients to and from examination areas and communicate effectively with technologists, physicians, nurses, registration staff, and other departments to promote coordinated, patient-centered care.*
• Monitor daily schedules, assist with workflow adjustments, and perform administrative and clerical duties that support timely, efficient department operations.*
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment by stocking examination rooms and supporting departmental quality assurance and regulatory compliance activities*.
• Demonstrate an understanding of radiation safety principles associated with radiopharmaceuticals, follow all policies outlined in the Nuclear Safety Manual, and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors*.
• Educate patients, as directed, on post-procedure radiation safety precautions and reinforce instructions provided by the clinical team.
• Demonstrate flexibility by performing additional duties, as trained and assigned, to support departmental and organizational needs.

Education / Experience Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED

Preferred:

• Previous experience in a healthcare, medical office, radiology, or customer service setting

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to assist with patient transport and positioning, as appropriate.
• Ability to work in a clinical environment and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
