Overview of the Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and reliability functions within the Tavistock food manufacturing 24 X 7 facility. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and utility systems while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, environmental, and health and safety standards. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement, lead a skilled maintenance department of (40 employees), and support operational excellence through effective asset management and reliability strategies.
Status: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, with flexibility to work outside regular business hours may be required.
Salary: $117,560 to $154,300 per annum.
*Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training.
How you will make contributions that matter:
- Lead all maintenance activities for cheese production, cheese packaging, whey powder production, utilities, and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and asset performance.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, GMP, HACCP, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and cost optimization.
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors, technicians, and trades employees, fostering a high-performance and Food safety and Health & Safety -focused culture.
- Manage maintenance schedule, budgets, spare parts inventory, and contractor relationships to support operational objectives.
- Collaborate with and lead Chief Engineer to oversee plant utility systems, including refrigeration, boilers, compressed air, HVAC, water, and wastewater systems.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce equipment failures and production downtime.
- Support capital projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrade from planning through execution.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and contractor safety requirements.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as equipment uptime, downtime, maintenance costs, PM completion rates, and safety performance.
You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:
- Certified tradesperson, preferably Millwright, electrician or with relevant engineering degree.
- 5+ years of experience in a maintenance management/leadership role, within an industrial maintenance environment.
- Experience in the Food industry an asset.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs (SAP) or similar CMMS.
- Knowledge of PLCs Programming to support troubleshooting.
- Experience creating and managing R&M budgets.
- Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills.
