The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position. The Global Psychiatric Epidemiology Group (GPEG), in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, seeks an Assistant Research Scientist to coordinate research projects and participate in data related efforts for various on-going longitudinal research studies.

The incumbent, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Director of the Analytic Unit and/or the Field Director, will help to facilitate activities related to all research conducted by GPEG. Working with the Director of the Analytic Unit, she/he will carry out statistical analysis of epidemiological study data involving survey, clinical, biological and genetics, including preparing tables and drafting reports. Working with the Field Director, she/he will also coordinate activities germane to subject tracking, study subject recruitment, interviewing and other field-related activities, such as the collection of biologicals, other in-person research procedures including arrange for subject transportation, etc. The incumbent will work during the daytime and evening on any of the seven days per week, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and perform preliminary statistical analyses, including work with complex longitudinal data.
  • Assist in grant preparation on various projects, including doing literature reviews, as needed.
  • Coordinate activities germane to subject recruitment, subject tracking,
  • Provide regular monitoring and documentation of field work-related activities, such as maintaining schedules, training coordination, etc.
  • Conduct study interviews and collect biological samples in subjects' homes and in the office.
  • Assist with the development and preparation of study questionnaires.
  • Perform various administrative functions as the needs arises.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and (1) year of professional research experience in an appropriate field. 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's/Master's degree with at least one (1) year relevant experience required. Bachelor's/Master's degree in Epidemiology, Psychology, Biology, and/or Public Health preferred.
  • Technical Skills: at least one (1) year of standard office technology and Google and Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint,
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with study investigators and study participants.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills and attention to details.
  • Exhibited strong follow-through, as well as ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience/training in mental health and substance use research is preferred.
  • Extensive field experience and previous experience with coordination of clinical/research studies.
  • Familiarity with on-line research platforms, such as REDCap, highly preferred
