- Define technical direction and architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Remain hands-on in software development, including solution design, development of critical components, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Lead complex engineering initiatives from architecture and design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation.
- Design backend systems capable of supporting high-volume consumer traffic across multiple products, devices, and markets.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to translate product roadmaps and business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Collaborate with Cloud/Infrastructure and DevOps teams on cloud-native deployment, scalability, resilience, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Partner across Data, Analytics, Personalization, Payments, Content, Identity, and other technology teams to support shared platform capabilities.
- Establish and promote engineering standards and best practices for architecture, API design, code quality, testing, observability, performance, and security.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, scalability concerns, and opportunities to modernize systems and reduce technical debt.
- Lead architecture and technical design reviews and influence major engineering decisions across teams.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code and design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Support production reliability, including incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches that improve scalability, reliability, developer productivity, or customer experience.

- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms and cloud-native architecture, preferably AWS, GCP, or comparable environments.
- Experience with containers, orchestration, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, and observability.
- Strong understanding of scalability, resiliency, fault tolerance, security, and operational reliability.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives involving multiple engineering teams and interconnected systems.
- Experience establishing architectural standards and influencing technical direction without requiring direct people-management authority.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience partnering with Product Management to translate product and business requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience within streaming, media, entertainment, subscription services, e-commerce, or another large-scale consumer digital environment strongly preferred.
