Decommissioning Well Cutting Technician

Overview

The US Offshore/Onshore Cutting Technician supports the safe rig-up, operation, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of specialized mechanical and hydraulic cutting equipment used in offshore decommissioning and intervention work. The role works rotational offshore assignments under site supervision and supports onshore maintenance, testing, mobilization, and demobilization activities. The technician is accountable for equipment readiness, quality execution, accurate job reporting, and compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements. Coordinates with the offshore cutting supervisor, client representatives, offshore crews, workshop personnel, logistics support, and operations leadership regarding equipment readiness, work execution, maintenance, mobilization, demobilization, and job documentation. Technicians shall comply with company HSE and Quality Management System policies and procedures, applicable regulations, client requirements, and approved work instructions. Each employee is responsible for performing work safely, ethically, and in accordance with applicable quality standards. Hazards, defects, incidents, near misses, nonconformances, and deviations shall be reported promptly through established channels. The technician is expected to exercise stop-work authority whenever conditions present an unacceptable risk to personnel, equipment, the environment, or work quality.

Responsibilities

• Safely rig up, operate, monitor, and rig down assigned equipment and support systems.
• Confirm equipment readiness through inspection, function testing, and pre-job checks.
• Perform work in accordance with approved procedures, job safety analyses, permits, and client requirements.
• Monitor cut quality and equipment performance, identify abnormal conditions, and escalate issues promptly.
• Complete accurate job reports, maintenance records, inspection forms, and equipment documentation.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance, repair, testing, and preparation of equipment at company facilities.
• Participate in mobilization and demobilization, including equipment verification, loadout support, and inventory control.
• Attend pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, and permit reviews.
• Inspect and verify equipment, hoses, fittings, guards, controls, and consumables before use.
• Rig up and operate equipment under the direction of the offshore supervisor.
• Coordinate work steps and equipment status with the client representative and supporting crews.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic issues within assigned authority.
• Maintain housekeeping and secure equipment during operations and transit.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions, procedural deviations, or equipment concerns are identified.
• Inspect, maintain, repair, and function-test mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
• Prepare equipment packages, tools, consumables, and documentation for upcoming work.
• Support equipment loadout, backload, mobilization, and demobilization activities.
• Assist with commissioning and testing of new or modified equipment.
• Clean, preserve, store, and track tools, spare parts, and consumables.
• Report defects, damage, shortages, and maintenance needs through established channels.
• Participate in training, drills, and continuous-improvement activities.

Qualifications

• BOSIET/HUET or equivalent offshore survival training
• SafeGulf or equivalent safety orientation
• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Current offshore medical fitness-for-duty clearance
• Drug and alcohol program compliance, as applicable
• Current H2S awareness training
• Rigging and signalperson training or certification
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with hydraulic systems
• Ability to work rotational schedules and travel by helicopter or vessel
• Experience with casing, conductor, pile, or structural cutting operations
• Prior plug and abandonment or decommissioning campaign experience
• Experience with abrasive water jet or mechanical cutting systems
• Confined space entry, first aid, and CPR training
• OEM or equipment-specific operational certification
• Work may be performed offshore and onshore in changing weather and environmental conditions.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, standing, bending, and working around industrial equipment.
• Must be able to work extended shifts, rotational schedules, and travel as operationally required.
