Senior / Managing Consultant – Environmental Impact Assessment

Role Summary

ERM is seeking an experienced Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA/ESIA) Consultant to join our Vietnam team. This role is suited to professionals operating between Senior Consultant and Project Manager level, with demonstrated experience leading environmental assessment and permitting projects.

You will play a key role in delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), environmental permitting, due diligence, and environmental management projects across a range of sectors. The role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, project management capability, stakeholder engagement, and client-facing consulting skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing project delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, maintaining client relationships, and contributing to business growth while ensuring high-quality technical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Management

• Lead and deliver EIA, ESIA, environmental permitting, environmental management planning, and environmental due diligence projects in accordance with Vietnamese regulatory requirements and international standards.
• Serve as Project Manager, Task Manager, Technical Lead, or Reviewer on environmental assessment and permitting projects.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, quality assurance, and HSE requirements.
• Coordinate and oversee field surveys, baseline studies, specialist assessments, stakeholder engagement programs, and regulatory submissions.
• Prepare, review, and deliver high-quality technical reports and client deliverables, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with regulatory and lender requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including specialists in air quality, noise, biodiversity, water resources, climate change, social performance, and GIS.

Client Relationship & Business Development

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through the delivery of high-quality consulting services.

• Act as a trusted advisor to clients on environmental regulatory requirements, permitting strategies, and project approvals.

• Support proposal preparation, technical methodologies, budget development, and commercial discussions.

• Identify opportunities for repeat business and cross-selling of ERM services.

• Participate in client meetings, presentations, workshops, and business development initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Engage with government agencies, regulatory authorities, lenders, project developers, and other key stakeholders.
• Support clients in navigating environmental approval processes and lender review requirements.
• Facilitate communication and coordination between technical specialists, clients, and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Leadership & Team Development

• Mentor and support the development of junior consultants and project team members.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives within ERM.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, safety, and professional excellence.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
• Approximately 5-10 years of relevant professional experience in EIA, ESIA, environmental permitting, environmental risk assessment, or environmental consulting.
• Strong knowledge of Vietnam's environmental regulatory framework and approval processes.
• Experience leading environmental assessments and preparing technical reports for industrial, infrastructure, energy, or development projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Experience engaging with regulators, clients, and project stakeholders.
• Familiarity with international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), or other lender requirements is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, report-writing, and presentation skills in both English and Vietnamese.
