Controller

Heber Light & Power is seeking an experienced Controller to join our team and play a key role in managing the organization's accounting and financial operations. This position provides leadership for day-to-day accounting activities while supporting accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, budgeting, auditing, and sound financial practices.

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with management, employees, auditors, vendors, and other stakeholders. The position also provides oversight of the Company's purchasing and procurement function.

What You'll Do

• Direct and coordinate day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for management and the Board of Directors.
• Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
• Coordinate audit activities and provide information and support to external auditors.
• Assist with annual budgeting, financial analysis, cost accounting, and other financial planning activities.
• Oversee Company purchasing and procurement activities, including purchase requests, quotes, bids, RFPs, vendor selection, purchase orders, contracts, and procurement records.
• Ensure accounting and purchasing activities comply with Company policies, approved budgets, authorization levels, and applicable requirements.
• Work collaboratively with department managers and employees to resolve accounting, purchasing, and financial issues.
• Support the development and improvement of financial, accounting, purchasing, and internal-control procedures.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a knowledgeable accounting professional who combines strong technical skills with sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with people throughout the organization.

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• Progressive experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in a governmental, utility, or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
• Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

• CPA certification.
• Experience with governmental or public utility accounting.
• Experience with procurement, competitive bidding, RFPs, and contract management.
• Supervisory or lead accounting experience.
