SUMMARY

The primary function of this position is to lead a crew performing street storm inlet inspections and cleanings. Work includes verifying GIS inventory and documenting any maintenance needs identified. This supports safer driving conditions; reduced pollutant loads to streams/channels and is required by our NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit. The position works primarily in the field as part of an inlet inspection crew with scheduled first shift hours.

SALARY OFFERING FOR THIS POSITION: $25.00 - $26.39/hr. Commensurate with Experience

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responsible for supervising Manhole Inspector performing semi-skilled tasks.

· Responsible for overseeing street inlet inspections, onsite top cleaning, data collection/reporting, and tracking work completion in assigned work areas.

· Ensure crew maintains schedule and productivity expectations. Ensure all necessary traffic management measures are compliant and properly implemented.

· Prepares and maintains accurate reports and records on assigned work activities.

· Inspects and maintains equipment in good operating condition by cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining as needed, while also ensuring that equipment is stored in a safe and proper manner.

· Develops improvement and growth plans for employees. Completes performance appraisals and addresses personnel issues.

· Responds to internal and external customers and resolves complaints in a courteous manner.

· Ensures field crew understands and adheres to all health and safety procedures.

· Coaches and motivates technicians and manhole inspectors by communicating needs and expectations and through proper training.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Ability to plan, prioritize and organizer work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

· Experience and knowledge of drainage and/or gravity utility systems in relation to storm water system inspection or maintenance.

· Understand how to read and interpret storm system maps and construction plans.

· Ability to implement and test new procedures, processes, and equipment.

· Experience with the operation of light & medium duty equipment and trucks.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Understanding of traffic control procedures and safety.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments, and the public.

· Ability to apply conflict resolution techniques and to work collaboratively and effectively with others.

· A valid driver’s license, a good driving record with the ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Two (2) to five (5) years of underground utility construction experience.

· Work order system experience.

· Experience with geospatial information systems, topography, storm water systems, and reading plans.

· Storm water infrastructure maintenance and construction of roadways.

· Supervisory experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited high school, technical or vocational school or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

This position requires significant judgment in traveling; traversing difficult terrain, retaining structures, barriers, and various urban/rural conditions; encountering a wide range of animals, insects, vegetation, and weather conditions; interacting with public; and experiencing unforeseen conditions/situations in accessing and entering drainage features within the Right of Way, public, and private property. This position requires that the selected candidate be able to walk at least 3 miles per day, stand for at least 8 hours per day, lift, push and pull up to 100 pounds multiple times a day, climb a ladder, bend, crawl and stoop, crawl, traverse and climb difficult Piedmont terrain and waterways in an urban environment, perform work under adverse weather and environmental conditions. The ability to traverse encountered field conditions as part of this position’s duties and responsibilities is a condition of employment. Employee must be able to work occasional overtime, various shift hours. Employee must obtain and maintain trainings and certifications essential to the work assignment as directed.
