Job Summary
The Nuclear Technologist supports the preparation, handling, dispensing, packaging, and distribution of radiopharmaceutical products within the radiopharmacy. Working in a regulated environment, the incumbent performs operational activities to ensure radiopharmaceuticals are prepared safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable radiation safety requirements, regulatory standards, quality procedures, and company policies.
The Nuclear Technologist collaborates with pharmacists, quality personnel, and operations staff to support the daily production and delivery of radiopharmaceuticals while maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Key Accountabilities:
Radiopharmaceutical Operations
- Prepare, assay, dispense, package, and label radiopharmaceutical products in accordance with approved procedures.
- Perform dose drawing, unit dose preparation, and other radiopharmacy production activities.
- Operate and maintain equipment used in radiopharmaceutical preparation and dispensing.
- Verify documentation and production records for completeness and accuracy.
- Support daily workflow to meet customer delivery schedules and patient treatment needs.
Radiation Safety & Compliance
- Follow established radiation safety procedures and ALARA principles.
- Perform contamination surveys, wipe tests, exposure monitoring, and other radiation safety activities as required.
- Utilize appropriate shielding, protective equipment, and handling techniques when working with radioactive materials.
- Maintain accurate records related to radioactive material handling, inventory, and waste management.
- Support compliance with NRC, Agreement State, DOT, FDA, USP, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Quality & Documentation
- Complete production, inventory, shipping, and quality records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.
- Assist with quality control activities and routine equipment checks.
- Identify and report deviations, non-conformances, safety concerns, and operational issues.
- Participate in investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain readiness for internal and external audits and inspections.
Inventory & Logistics Support
- Receive, transfer, and inventory radioactive materials and related supplies.
- Assist with inventory management and material reconciliation activities.
- Support preparation of products for shipment and transportation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of radioactive materials and waste.
Team Collaboration
- Partner with pharmacists and operational personnel to ensure safe and efficient radiopharmacy operations.
- Participate in required training and maintain applicable certifications.
- Contribute to a culture focused on safety, quality, compliance, and customer service.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Sciences, Health Sciences, or related discipline required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in nuclear medicine, radiopharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, radiopharmaceutical operations, or a related regulated environment preferred.
- Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) preferred or required based on operational needs and state regulations.
- Experience working with radioactive materials preferred.
- Knowledge of radiation safety principles and handling of radioactive materials.
- Understanding of cGMP, USP, NRC, DOT, FDA, and other applicable regulatory requirements preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment with time-sensitive production schedules.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications and electronic documentation systems.
- Must be able to lift 60 pounds
- Valid driver’s license
