Description

The Special Assets VCAT Regional Lead is responsible for leading the regional valuation function, overseeing the assessment and monitoring of non-performing loans (NPLs) and distressed exposures. The role is accountable for managing a team of valuation analysts and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, independent valuations that support restructuring, recovery, enforcement, provisioning, and exit strategies.

The Regional Lead partners closely with senior stakeholders across Remedial Management, Line Risk, Relationship Management, Legal, and Finance to develop and execute strategies that maximise recoveries while ensuring compliance with the remedial management policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of valuation analysts, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Allocate workloads, establish priorities, and ensure the timely completion of valuation reviews and portfolio assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight on complex valuation and restructuring cases.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance valuation methodologies / templates, processes, and controls.
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and performance management within the team.

Valuation Oversight and Portfolio Management

  • Oversee valuations of distressed assets portfolio; review and challenge valuation assumptions, methodologies, and outputs to ensure consistency, accuracy, and policy alignment
  • Direct portfolio-wide stress testing and scenario analyses to assess recovery outcomes and potential losses
  • Provide strategic input into restructuring, refinancing, and exit strategies for complex problem-credit cases and valuations
  • Oversee the preparation of valuation reports and recommendations for senior management, credit committees, and regulatory reviews.
  • Support and Oversee ad hoc projects, including CCAR stress testing, Model Risk management and other regulatory workstreams

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Remedial Management, Credit Risk, Banking, Legal, Compliance, and Finance.
  • Present complex valuation analyses and recovery recommendations to executive management and governance committees.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex or high-profile valuation matters.

Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to valuation policies, risk framework, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain robust governance, controls, and documentation standards across all valuation activities.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and model validation exercises.
  • Drive enhancements to valuation policies and frameworks in response to changing regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Chartered Accountant (CA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or an equivalent advanced professional degree.
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in credit analysis, corporate restructuring, distressed debt, special assets, or corporate/investment banking.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams, and influence and engage senior stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience with corporate valuation methodologies, including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and relative valuation (multiples) techniques.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to negotiate, influence decisions, and build relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
