Assistant Director of Employer RelationsJob Description:
The Assistant Director of Employer Relations serves as the Career Center's primary representative for developing strategic relationships with employers, alumni, industry partners, and community organizations that enhance career opportunities for Mount St. Mary's University students and graduates.The Assistant Director is responsible for expanding employer partnerships that result in internships, full-time employment, experiential learning opportunities, classroom engagement, networking events, and career exploration experiences. The position works collaboratively with multiple campus divisions including academic schools, faculty, institutional research, alumni engagement, and regional business organizations to strengthen connections between the university and employers.
This position requires a highly relationship-oriented professional who enjoys networking, developing new partnerships, and representing the university throughout the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Employer Development and Strategic Outreach (40%)
- Develop and implement an employer engagement strategy focused on expanding recruitment opportunities for Mount students and alumni.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with new employers across industries tied to current and emerging Mount academic programs. Conduct regional employer visits (Maryland, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C.)
- Coordinate employer registrations for participation in career fairs, information sessions, and on-campus recruitment.
- Represent the university at business, workforce development, chamber of commerce, and professional association events.
- Build long-term partnerships that lead to ongoing internships, employment, site visits, classroom speakers, job shadowing, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Maintain consistent communication with employer partners to build awareness of Career Center events and to understand workforce needs and emerging hiring trends.
Employer Programs and Recruiting Events (30%)
- Plan and execute career fairs, networking events, employer information sessions, on-campus interviewing, and industry-specific recruiting programs.
- Ensure an exceptional experience for employer participants before, during, and after each event.
- Recruit new employers while maintaining strong relationships with returning partners.
- Evaluate employer satisfaction and implement continuous improvements.
Campus Collaboration (20%)
- Communicate with faculty and academic leadership to connect employers with academic programs. Assist faculty in identifying internship and experiential learning opportunities aligned with academic programs.
- Coordinate employer classroom presentations, site visits, career treks, mock interviews, and industry panels.
- Collaborate with the Office of Alumni Engagement to identify alumni willing to recruit students, participate in networking events, serve on panels, and host internships.
- Increase alumni participation in career fairs, employer information sessions, and industry networking events. Strengthen relationships with alumni-owned businesses and organizations.
Employer Technology and Data Management (10%)
- Manage employer accounts within Handshake.
- Approve employer registrations and job postings while ensuring compliance with Career Center recruiting policies.
- Maintain accurate employer records and partnership activity.
- Track employer engagement metrics and prepare annual assessment reports.
- Utilize data to evaluate employer outreach efforts and recruitment outcomes.
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Three years of progressive responsible experience in employer relations, business development, recruiting, sales, workforce development, higher education, human resources, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success building professional relationships and partnerships.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience using CRM or recruiting platforms such as Handshake, Salesforce, or similar systems.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally and regionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in higher education, corporate recruiting, workforce development, or economic development.
- Experience working with alumni relations or advancement offices.
- Familiarity with career development best practices and employment trends.
- Experience planning employer engagement events.

Salary Range
$50,000/55,000 year
(Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.)
