Crew Member I $38,927 - $42,819 (hiring range) Start your career with hands-on training and essential public works experience.

Crew Member II $40,876 - $44,963 (hiring range) Build technical skill, assume broader responsibilities, and strengthen your contribution to the team.

Progression through the career ladder is based on demonstrated skills, successful performance, required training and certifications, operational needs, and available funding.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting waste management operations. Work assignments may include:

 

Crew Member I Concrete and Surface Maintenance Assist with the repair and maintenance of concrete structures, including sidewalks and curbs. Help prepare and manage sites for effective concrete pouring and finishing and participate in grading and leveling tasks to ensure smooth, even surfaces. Landscaping Support Collaborate with tree crews to remove brush, support planting efforts to enhance green spaces with new vegetation and assist in trimming and maintaining trees to promote healthy growth and improve aesthetics, ensuring clear and safe environments. Site Preparation and Cleanup Contribute to the preparation and cleanup of worksites, ensuring they are ready for construction and landscaping activities and maintaining site tidiness and safety standards post-project.

Crew Member II Concrete Crew Repair sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Paving and Asphalt Crew Assist with repairs to roads, service cuts, utility services, curbs, gutters, and pothole repair. Tree Crew Perform tree trimming, pruning, removal, and planting, while operating equipment such as chain saws, pole saws, pruners, chippers, and stump grinders. Manage tasks like roping down limbs, lifting, and stacking wood and mulch. Additionally, drive a dump truck to transport equipment to job sites and the landfill.

Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements: Crew Member I

• Educational background equivalent to a high school diploma.
• A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
• Must possess, or have the ability to obtain VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
• Must complete and maintain OSHA-required training and certifications applicable to the position, including all assigned training within thirty (30) days of employment.

Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements: Crew Member Il

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• One (1) year of experience and/or training involving manual labor or successful progression from Crew Member I; or equivalent education, and/or experience.
• Must meet and maintain all minimum qualifications, licenses, certifications, and training requirements established for the preceding position within the Crew Member career ladder.
• Must possess a VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification.
• Must complete and maintain OSHA-required training and certifications applicable to the position, including all assigned training within thirty (30) days in position.
• A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.
