Hands-on fencing and general farm maintenance role on a well-established hill country property, with some stock work when required.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As Fencer General at Edenham Station, you’ll be part of a practical, supportive farm team. Your work will help keep the farm safe, tidy and running well. This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety, where you can use your fencing and maintenance skills while continuing to learn.
Most of your time will be spent on fencing, repairs and general farm maintenance. You may also help with tractor work (including feed-out and cultivation), buildings, yards, water systems, weed control, pest control and other jobs that support the wider farm team.
From time to time, you may also help with stock work. If you have worked around animals before, that’s great. If not, we’ll support you to build your confidence and skills.
If you like the idea of steady work, regular hours and being part of a supportive farm team, this role offers a reliable routine, competitive pay, and the bonus of only working around one weekend in six, helping you keep a good work-life balance.
ABOUT YOU
This role could suit you if you enjoy practical outdoor work, like seeing a job done well, and want to be part of a team that looks out for each other.
You do not need to know everything before you start, but ideally you’ll bring some fencing, repairs or farm maintenance experience, and a willingness to keep learning.
To be successful, you’ll have:
A practical, can-do approach
Confidence using tools, machinery or farm equipment, or ability to learn
A steady, safe way of working
A full current New Zealand driver’s licence
THE FARM
Edenham Station is a 1,900ha sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation, with 1,550ha effective. It’s a busy, well-run farm with a positive, high-performing team culture and plenty of variety - no two days look the same.
The farm runs a balanced 60/40 mix of sheep and cattle, including breeding and finishing stock, beef-on-dairy integration, forage cropping and production forestry.
Located just five minutes from Elsthorpe, Edenham offers the best of rural Hawke’s Bay living, space, community and easy access to the outdoors, while still being within reach of town. Hunting, fishing, walking and beach trips are all close by, with Kairakau Beach only around 15 minutes away.
For families, Elsthorpe School is just five minutes down the road and there is a school bus at the gate. Waipukurau is around 25 minutes away, and Havelock North and Hastings are around 35 minutes away, giving you access to shops, cafés, schools, sport and community activities when you need them. It’s a great spot to build your farming career while enjoying a settled rural lifestyle.
