Job Summary: The CDL Driver/Laborer is responsible for the safe operation of commercial vehicles equipped with dump bodies to transport and unload materials essential for utility construction projects, with a focus on natural gas and underground utilities. This role also involves performing various manual labor tasks to support construction activities, ensuring adherence to all safety and operational standards.​

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain commercial vehicles (CDL Class A or B) with dump bodies to transport and unload materials such as sand, gravel, and construction equipment.​

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.​

• Load and unload equipment and materials, ensuring proper securing of loads to prevent shifting or damage during transit.​

• Comprehensive understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance related to commercial vehicle operation.​

• Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles in various construction environments.​

• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.​

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.​

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with team members and supervisors.​

• Physical stamina and dexterity to perform labor-intensive tasks in diverse weather conditions.​

• Commitment to teamwork and collaboration to achieve project goals efficiently.​

• Assist in various construction tasks, including but not limited to:​

  • Excavation and trenching for underground utility installations.​

  • Installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and related infrastructure.​

  • Backfilling and compaction of excavated areas.​

  • Restoration of work sites, including paving and landscaping.​

• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of vehicles, tools, and equipment.​

• Adhere to all company safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety meetings.​

• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure efficient workflow and address any issues promptly.​

• Complete and maintain accurate records, including vehicle logs, load tickets, and maintenance reports.​

• Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion and company objectives.​

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching.​

• Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.​

• Climbing ladders and working at heights as required.​

• Extended periods of sitting and driving.​

Education/Experience:

• Valid CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.​

• Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.​

• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.​

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction driving, preferably in utility construction.​

• Vocational training or certification in construction-related fields.​

• Experience with natural gas utility construction and underground utility installations.​

• Familiarity with excavation safety practices and trenching operations.​
