Description

Commercial Fishing Fleet & Dock Operations Leadership Manager
Company: HireNow Staffing (Direct Placement Partner)
HireNow Snapshot
HireNow Staffing is actively recruiting a hands-on Commercial Fishing Fleet & Dock Operations Leadership Manager to join one of our valued client partners in Vancouver, British Columbia.
This opportunity is specifically designed for an experienced commercial fishing professional ready to transition from working aboard vessels into shore-based operations leadership. The successful candidate will bring firsthand knowledge of commercial fishing operations and use that experience to coordinate vessels, docks, seafood processing, freight, warehouse activity, and day-to-day logistics.
This is not a desk-only management position. The selected professional will work alongside the Senior Vice President of Operations and remain actively involved across the dock, warehouse, processing plant, fleet operations, and office. The role requires someone who can anticipate operational needs, build credibility with fishermen, respond quickly when conditions change, and keep seafood and supplies moving efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate movement and delivery of fish, bait, equipment, and supplies between commercial fishing vessels, docks, processing facilities, and other operational locations.
  • Support scheduling and day-to-day logistics for active commercial fishing vessels.
  • Partner closely with the Senior VP of Operations to maintain efficient fleet, plant, warehouse, and dock operations.
  • Coordinate freight movement, including trucks, shipments, and coastal transportation requirements.
  • Maintain consistent communication with fishermen, vessel crews, suppliers, transportation providers, production teams, and internal departments.
  • Anticipate vessel, dock, freight, and processing requirements before they become operational problems.
  • Respond to changing vessel schedules, shipment requirements, production demands, and other real-time logistical challenges.
  • Assist production and warehouse teams with unloading, palletizing, order preparation, and other hands-on responsibilities when needed.
  • Operate a forklift or complete required training/certification.
  • Support order assembly and verify outgoing shipments for accuracy.
  • Maintain operational records, documentation, data entry, and administrative information.
  • Help improve processes and operational coordination as the organization continues to grow.
  • Develop the operational knowledge and leadership capabilities required to assume broader responsibilities over time.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience preferred.
  • Direct, hands-on experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels is required.
  • Current or previous experience as a commercial fisherman, deckhand, vessel crew member, or comparable hands-on fishing professional.
  • Strong understanding of the realities, schedules, demands, and rapidly changing conditions associated with commercial fishing operations.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities, particularly when working with fishermen and operational teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, reliability, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work autonomously, anticipate upcoming needs, and take appropriate action without constant direction.
  • Strong real-time problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, physically active, and high-pressure operational environments.
  • Willingness to work hands-on alongside dock, warehouse, and production personnel.
  • Flexible and adaptable when vessel schedules, freight requirements, weather, production needs, or operational priorities change.
  • Ability to work onsite in the Vancouver, British Columbia area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous logistics, fleet operations, supply chain, seafood processing, warehouse, or transportation experience.
  • Experience coordinating commercial fishing vessel activity from a shore-based operational perspective.
  • Knowledge of seafood processing and cold-chain operations.
  • Forklift operating experience or existing certification.
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Experience coordinating freight, trucking, shipments, or coastal transportation.
  • Previous leadership, crew coordination, or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia's commercial fishing environment.
  • Interest in transitioning from vessel-based work into a long-term operations leadership career.
