What you'll do...
Role summary:The Manager, Data Engineering, leads the development and execution of strategies that support Walmart’s global taxonomy, product specifications, and catalog governance. This role partners with business and technical stakeholders to identify needs, design scalable solutions, and ensure taxonomy and specification data is structured, consistent, and aligned with business objectives. The manager oversees the delivery and ongoing management of specifications, establishes standards for schema quality and governance, and translates complex business needs into clear requirements and actionable solutions. This role also promotes continuous improvement, operational excellence, and cross-functional alignment to strengthen Walmart’s catalog capabilities and deliver measurable business value.
About the team:
The Schema and Specification Management team is a key part of Walmart’s central Catalog organization, responsible for the global taxonomy and product specifications that support Walmart’s catalog across markets. This team maintains the authoritative source for taxonomy, ensures schema quality and consistency, and oversees the successful delivery and adoption of product specifications. It plays a strategic role in enhancing Walmart’s leadership in the global retail industry by shaping capabilities that drive data governance, integration, and quality. The team collaborates across functions to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions aligned with business goals.
What you'll do:
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of product specifications aligned with business and customer needs.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and develop practical, scalable solutions.
- Manage the structure, transformation, and implementation of taxonomy and specification data across systems and markets.
- Establish and uphold governance standards that promote quality, consistency, compliance, and responsible data use.
- Drive adoption of best practices for specification design, validation, testing, documentation, and release management.
- Translate complex business challenges into clear requirements, structured solutions, and measurable outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve schema quality, and strengthen the overall catalog experience.
What you'll bring:
- Experience working with complex data structures, product information, taxonomy, specifications, or catalog-related domains.
- Proficiency in SQL and comfort analyzing large or complex datasets.
- Strong understanding of data quality, taxonomy, schema management, and governance principles.
- Ability to translate business requirements into clear specifications, data structures, and scalable solutions.
- Experience managing cross-functional initiatives using agile ways of working.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify patterns, assess impacts, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical stakeholders to define needs, align priorities, and drive implementation.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
