*This opportunity is for High School seniors that are enrolled in a local High School Career & Technical Education (CTE) program for the 2026/2027 school year. This recruitment is for positions in Administration and Information Technology.*

Under direct supervision, performs general routine work in an office, vocational, or technical work environment, depending on area of assignment, designed to provide practical work experience for the participant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides customer service by answering phones and directing calls appropriately, greeting the public, and responding to routine inquiries and service requests.
  • Performs routine data entry and/or light typing; maintains records; performs and maintains paper and electronic filing of specified departmental documents; performs other specialized office functions as assigned.
  • Assists with first level technical support and assistance to customers; explains issues and offers solutions according to department policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines; follows up with user to assure request is resolved.
  • Refers complex requests, incidents, or problems to senior staff to facilitate continued improvement of customer services.
  • Runs errands, cleans, and maintains work area.
  • Shadows and assists with routine technical work in area of assignment related to operations, equipment maintenance, inventory control, basic inspection work, and/or software and hardware installation, configuration, repair, and upgrades.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate/interact positively with others.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be currently enrolled in and attending a local High School;
  • Be actively enrolled in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program;
  • Be referred by the High School CTE Coordinator;
  • Be willing to commit to learning office procedures, technical and/or vocational procedures, processes, equipment, and protocols.
  • Positions assigned to the Yuma Police Department must pass a polygraph and background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.Position

Depending on assigned area, the position(s) will consist of providing general office support along with completing clerical duties. In addition:

  • City Administration position will also consist of assisting with events and conducting online research. This position will be exposed to City government, including the City Council.
  • Information Technology (IT) position will assist the Service Desk and Technicians with Tier 1 IT service requests and troubleshooting, while gaining exposure to all departmental communications needs. Key training areas will include foundational IT troubleshooting, customer service skills, and hands-on experience with diverse technologies.

Schedule

The work schedule for the position(s) varies.  Work hours are in the afternoon (typically 1-5pm). You will be expected to work between 10 – 19 hours a week. This position may work through the Summer until the new school year begins, or no later than August 31, 2027.

Department Business Hours

Each department has different business hours, which allow you some flexibility in your work schedule.  Both City Administration and IT work in City Hall, which is open Monday through Thursday, and every other Friday, 7am to 5pm.
