JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial data integrity and for executing defined processes for reporting and reconciliations. The Staff Accountant works closely with the accounting team to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of accounting activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for debt, depreciation, and other balance sheet accounts for month-end and year-end close.
- Perform daily and monthly general ledger accounting activities.
- Prepare and maintain accurate account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other assigned accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy and proper account coding.
- Assist with preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements.
- Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable activity.
- Assist with construction job costing and review job cost transactions for accuracy.
- Review project costs, labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other direct and indirect costs.
- Assist with billing, collections, and cash management activities as needed.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external audits, tax filings, insurance audits, ESOP audits, and 401(k) audits.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records and documentation.
- Assist with internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist the Controller with special projects and process improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience (public accounting or corporate accounting preferred).
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with Sage 100 Contractor
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
