Summary of Job Duties:

The Senior Occupational Safety Coordinator works under the general direction of Fire and Life Safety Officer. The Senior Occupational Safety Coordinator duties include, but are not limited to, primarily being responsible for construction, fire and life safety code and regulatory compliance for the entire campus. The Senior Occupational Safety Coordinator monitors the campus programs designed to identify, evaluate and control occupational hazards to UAMS employees including respiratory protection, biological safety, chemical safety and radiation safety. Stay up to date with regulatory changes and update SOPs as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences, safety, industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, or a related field plus three (3) or more years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field.
• Computer competency

Preferred Qualifications:

• Administration experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• OSHA’s Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response standard (HAZWOPER); 40 Hour initial training with eight (8) hours annual refresher. Will be provided within the first year if candidate does not have it.
• CPR/AED Certified. Will be provided within the first year if candidate does not have it.
• Ability to follow oral instructions, read and write.
• Knowledge of codes, standards, and ability to utilize and make appropriate decisions.

What You Will Be Doing (Responsibilities):

• Conduct safety audits to assess compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Evaluate employee and student safety, recommend corrective actions, and conduct follow-up audits to confirm issues have been addressed.
• Provide general, electrical, and fire safety training to university employees and students.
• Help develop policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance.
• Maintain administrative records for the Safety Compliance Division.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
