Senior Alcohol Test Unit Technician

Performs venipuncture for blood alcohol testing. Oversees the Alcohol Technician Unit (ATU) operations and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures. Serves as the backup if an ATU technician is not available. Serves as the custodian of evidential test documents, assembles and produces them upon the demand of subpoena, and appears in court to testify. Maintains records and files as needed. Completes reports and required billing paperwork to ensure that proper reimbursement is made by the courts. Monitors supply levels and orders supplies as appropriate. • Trains Unit Technicians in procedures and techniques;
• Provides guidance to Unit Technicians in the performance of their duties;
• Maintains records on Unit's activities;
• Produces documents under court order (also known as Duces Tecum Subpoenas);
• In the presence of the arresting officer, draws blood to be tested for alcohol or drug content;
• Places blood in vials to be sent to an outside laboratory for analysis;
• Logs data on each test administered and maintains test records;
• Testifies in court as to test procedures and results;
• Deals with citizens tactfully and courteously under adverse conditions.

• Skill in performing technical venipuncture procedures;
• Ability to successfully train others in Unit techniques;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to:
High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education;
Plus, two years of medical or hospital experience performing venipuncture.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

• Driver's License (Required)
• Phlebotomy Technician Certification - Required

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check, polygraph exam, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience performing venipuncture at a medical facility or hospital. Experience testifying in court for work-related cases. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires the ability to operate keyboard driven equipment, to operate devices with tablet technologies, and to sit or stand for periods of time. Must be able to draw blood. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
